Senate Intelligence Committee : Report On The U.S. Intelligence Communitys Prewar Intelligence Assessments On Iraq Conclusion 13. The report on the former ambassadors trip to Niger, disseminated in March 2002, did not change any analysts assessments of the Iraq-Niger uranium deal. For most analysts, the information in the report lent more credibility to the original Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports on the uranium deal, but the State Department Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) analysts believed that the report supported their assessment that Niger was unlikely to be willing or able to sell uranium to Iraq.

Granted that Mr Wilson was correct in saying that the document he saw was in fact a forgery. But , to push the charge that the document he reffered to was the basis for us going to war , was not only a lie but an act of treason. Mr Wilson himself has never said that iraq never sought uranium from niger, only that they were unsuccessfull in there request. Mr Wilson was sent only to verify "iraq sought yellow cake uranium from niger" and Mr. Wilson report did confirm as much(According to Mr Wilson himself). The Bush Administration has never claimed that iraq purchased yellowcake uranium, only that Iraq sought it from niger. So when Mr Wilson intentionally and publicly claimed that this President decieved congress by using fake documents to justify invading iraq "he absolutely lied" .... And that in my opinion is Treason.
Wilson claims the first time he saw them is when Andrea Mitchell presented them to him after his famous article. He maintained he didn't read them then, or ever.
Well, why not? If a reporter had them, isn't he a tad bit curious? What explains his rigid answers and actions.
The reason is quite simple.
Valerie told him about the reports in early 2002, might have shown him the documents when acquired.
She's not supposed to discuss such things, or take home homework. Wilson has to keep that possibility out of question lest she lose her job.
Was it you that sponsored the French theory of planted fakes?
How about this scenario. France planted them with the Italians. But in later discussions with the Americans realized the Italians only forwarded reports of the documents. This was unsatisfactory for the set-up. The French needed to get the actual documents in American hands, so they used an Italian reporter and had her deliver them to American Embassy in Italy.
regarding a 1998 trip by Gabon President Omar Bongo to the United States. Apparently, the Gabonese hired Wilsons second wife Jacqueline as a lobbyist in support of the trip. Another who worked with her was the famous Pierre Salinger
"-In 1985 Wilson returned to the USA to work in Tom Foleys and Al Gores offices. He married Jacqueline in 1986."
Text of CIA Director George Tenet's statement
Excerpt:
CIA's counter-proliferation experts, on their own initiative, asked an individual with ties to the region to make a visit to see what he could learn. He reported back to us that one of the former Nigerien (sic) officials he met stated that he was unaware of any contract being signed between Niger and rogue states for the sale of uranium during his tenure in office. The same former official also said that in June 1999 a businessman approached him and insisted that the former official meet with an Iraqi delegation to discuss "expanding commercial relations" between Iraq and Niger. The former official interpreted the overture as an attempt to discuss uranium sales. The former officials also offered details regarding Niger's processes for monitoring and transporting uranium that suggested it would be very unlikely that material could be illicitly diverted. There was no mention in the report of forged documents -- or any suggestion of the existence of documents at all.
Because this report, in our view, did not resolve whether Iraq was or was not seeking uranium from abroad, it was given a normal and wide distribution, but we did not brief it to the President, Vice-President or other senior Administration officials. We also had to consider that the former Nigerien officials knew that what they were saying would reach the U.S. government and that this might have influenced what they said.
This is what I heard, no documentation to support it:
The forgeries were used as a back-up because the real intel that supported the report was not supposed to be given to us, not authorized by the 3rd party (France?) to be shown to us. So the forgeries weren't really looked into that closely because we had the other intel and weren't relying on those documents. When called on it, we had to say we'd used the forgeries because we weren't supposed to have seen the real intel.
The only problem with that is that the forged document came into our poisession after his trip. The Btits are the ones who said Saddam had sent a team of high ranking Military and Intelligence officials to Niger to talk about trade between the two countries. Since Niger has no real trade other than Uranium Oxide and Livestock, and it's doubtful that Saddam would send a Military deligation to negotiate a livestock trade deal with Niger
I think Wilson planned to trumpet his role, via the Niger trip. The publicity of the Niger document forgery issue developed later. To his demerit, he coopted himself into the workings of how they were proved forgeries, giving himself a central role. But he had no role in that.
So instead of nefarious part in planting/formulating the documents, his motive was egomaniacal.

I'll take responsibility.
The French needed to get the actual documents in American hands, so they used an Italian reporter and had her deliver them to American Embassy in Italy.
To work, the actual documents must be exposed, yes. But now I wonder if Bill Burkett might've had something to do with this...
"The only problem with that is that the forged document came into our poisession after his trip"
I'll be clearer. If he's hiding that wifey blabbed to him (and they seem talkative) it could be multiple occassions. First, that she told him details about the Italian reports before the trip and second, about the hard documents themselves after the CIA received them.
I think this is plausible.
What was Andrea Mitchell doing with them?
I'm gonna send you a FR Mail in a sec
She was having a rendezvous with Karl Rove.
What I don't understand is why NOBODY in the MSM is talking about this.
They were posted on the U.N.'s website as part of the public report submitted to the U.N. by Powell
"The Italian reports did not exist before his trip"
I believe there were reports sourced to the forgeries presented to the US by Italy, or another country. Recall Valerie's "crazy report" statement to Joe before the trip.
Joe said, get me a plane!
