Cairo - An explosive detonated as it was being carried by a man several kilometres from a tourist bazaar next to the Pyramids of Giza on Sunday, police said. The man was severely injured, but the blast caused no other casualties.
The incident came amid heightened fears of attacks on tourists in Egypt after Saturday's string of simultaneous bombings in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik, 400 kilometres east of the capital. Security was hiked up in many parts of Cairo, including around the Pyramids.
Investigators were trying to determine whether the man, identified as Sami Gamal Ahmad, 33, was taking the explosive to the nearby tourist area of Kerdassa, a bazaar of souvenir shops near the Pyramids, a senior security official involved in the investigation said.

Thanks for posting. Interesting.
I think your theory is a good one. Evidence to support it seems to be growing.

"The man was severely injured, but the blast caused no other casualties."
Since he is now in custody of the suthorities there, if he does live he will wish he had not.
The *primers* went off on all four of the 7/21 bombs; that's different than having no explosion at all.
...and all of this talk about acetone peroxide...that's a primer. That's a homemade way to set off C4. Yeah, you'd see traces of acetone peroxide in the 7/7 blasts, no doubt...but what's going unsaid are the traces of the primary explosives.
The Serbs, for instance, are screaming right now that the *primary* explosives used in London on 7/7 came from radical Islamics in the Balkans. Their claims match up with the early reports on 7/7 that "military grade" explosives were used. However, after those initial press reports, the news media seems to have been deflected onto the acetone peroxide angle...not knowing that acetone peroxide is a primer instead of the primary explosive (typically).
Remedial bomb-making note: more powerful explosives often require a shock to detonate. ANFO, for instance, takes a blasting cap. So a lot of bombs are two-stage (sometimes even 3) beasts. The electrical (or chemical fuse) circuitry triggers the more volatile primer (e.g. acetone peroxide, blasting cap, etc.) which in turn sets off the primary charge (e.g. C4, ANFO).
Hopefully there's enough of him left for the police to properly torture.
Right. It will be hard to discern the marks made from the secret police and those inflected by the bomb. I can imagine some of the wounds will be slow in healing until all the information is extracted from him.
Oh, wait....
Or kablammy.
The crazies are trying to get the tourists especially the westerners to not come into their countries.
It has happened thisway in the North of Africa for the last several years.
Go to an especially western flavoured vacation spot and blow up innocents, anything to keep the westerners out.
I love stories with happy endings.
premature detonation?
Maybe he just got too excited.
Wait, don't tell me. The Amish have moved into Egypt now?
I believe your theory is quite plausible. Intersperse those dupes with a few true bleevers and you got yourself a gee-haaaad.
That's one of the scientific reasons for premature detonation. Perhaps he should have thought about baseball on his way to the target.
Beginning by withholding the morphine

And what they actually succeed in doing is wrecking the economies of the muslim countries that depend upon this tourism. Talking about shooting oneself in the foot. But these radicals are too far gone in the logic area to ascertain this.
