SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt - Egypt's president vowed Saturday to hunt down terrorists who unleashed a rapid series of car bombs and another blast in this Egyptian Red Sea resort, devastating a luxury hotel and a coffee shop and killing at least 88 people in the nation's deadliest terror attack.

The early morning attacks, which used more than a half-ton of explosives, came just two days after the latest strikes in London and sent an already jittery world reeling again. At least 119 people were wounded, the Interior Ministry said.

With two extremist groups claiming responsibility, Egypt tightened security at other busy tourist sites like the Pyramids and Luxor, and the government and British tourist agencies sent large aircraft to the Sinai to fly home nervous tourists.

Egypt's foreign minister was talking about a phone call he got from Britain's Jack Straw. He went on to add that in the past Britain always issued warnings against traveling to areas that were hit by terror attacks. Now the British government adopted a new policy that do not issue such a warning. "They believe today that we cannot defeat terror by hiding but by confrontation" he said.

Zawahiri (Osama's #2) is a leader of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. He was involved in the assassination of Anwar Sadat and was imprisoned by Mubarak for a while. Zawahiri hates the Egyptian government; and Mubarak and his government have been a target for many years.

You're correct, these people(?) originally started out trying to bring down the governments in the mid east. The turned to fighting us (The West) because 1. these governments while not very good at governing were very good at staying in power. 2 we supported these governments.

Example Khomeini's hatered for America stems from our support of the Shah.

IMO That's pretty much it. They don't really realise that we are at war. They are still thinking pre-9-11, find the people who did this (whatever terrorist act you care to name) arrest them and bring them to trial.

IMO They veiw war as a failure to "understand" the other side, that and they don't really understand evil. That there are people out there who will kill you because you don't think, act, believe exactly like they do.

Unspeakable, but so were the London bombing pictures, so was 9/11, the Cole, and on and on.....Nothing new, just more Islamofascist horror. Someone said last night on tv, Fox, that the feeling was that Al Qaeda had hit its high water mark and were reduced to scattered attacks on more vulnerable targets. Europe's been warned, so presumably more attacks will take place there, as well.
