SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt - Egypt's president vowed Saturday to hunt down terrorists who unleashed a rapid series of car bombs and another blast in this Egyptian Red Sea resort, devastating a luxury hotel and a coffee shop and killing at least 88 people in the nation's deadliest terror attack.
The early morning attacks, which used more than a half-ton of explosives, came just two days after the latest strikes in London and sent an already jittery world reeling again. At least 119 people were wounded, the Interior Ministry said.
With two extremist groups claiming responsibility, Egypt tightened security at other busy tourist sites like the Pyramids and Luxor, and the government and British tourist agencies sent large aircraft to the Sinai to fly home nervous tourists.

Speaking of car chases in L.A. (since I live there), the London cops have a long way to go to catch up in "ooops" stats with our cops. L.A. area cops and their car chases are good for at least a few deaths of innocent bystanders every year.

I agree with that -- must see Michael Jackson and car chases. Fox does so many breaking news alerts that at one time they were breaking for any type of fire in a city on top of car chases.
Are we sure this bombing really happened? (sarcasm) Headline News has sports moments, CNN Iraqi history or something like that -- same as last night, Fox News has Kasich talking to some anti-Bush guy. Unbelieveable.
Over at the BBC webstie they have a video of the bombing in Sharm a tourist was filming and caught the car bomb going off on film.

Zawahiri (Osama's #2) is a leader of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. He was involved in the assassination of Anwar Sadat and was imprisoned by Mubarak for a while. Zawahiri hates the Egyptian government; and Mubarak and his government have been a target for many years. (There have been many plots to murder Mubarak - most notably in 1995 in New York.) This is also why al Qaeda murdered that poor Egyptian ambassador to Iraq recently. Zawahiri wanted him dead.
Al Qaeda wants to bring down the Egyptian government by any means possible - e.g., by destroying the tourist business; and to torpedo any arrangement Egypt makes with Israel to maintain order in Gaza. Al Qaeda would like to be free to move into the Sinai area and Gaza (which is strategically located on the Mediterranean) to use as a base for operations.
