Seemingly driven, popular success would encourage an individual to remain somewhat vanilla, but great strategists also sometimes hold their tongue and bide their time. We don't know, and that's the point.

I think the disgraceful attacks on Ann Coulter by our fellow PReepers prove my point that the "maintstram" of the Republican support throughout the nation is LESS conservative than they ysed to be & is moving leftward as time goes on. Folks just can't tolerate criticism anymore, even healthy criticism of our so-called "leaders". The GOP base believes that President Bush is as prefect as North Korea's righteous ruler, & any criticism from the Right is totally unacceptable. The 2 major political parties are moving closer & closer together, leaving true limited government conservatism behind...along w/ respecting the 9th & 10th Amendments, US sovereignty, LOCAL control of schools, abortion/drug/crime/welfare laws, etc. etc. etc.

I think Coulter has gotten where she is by trying to be outrageous and by being a female. Her intellect and writing abilities don't impress me very much. Don't really dislike her, just don't respect her very much.

What I have been seeing, and I am very sorry to have to say it, is a forum that is now far more amenable to GOP Big Tent RINOs/Liberals/Moderates than it is to conservatives (and by that I mean loyal American conservatives). And that's a real shame. Most of us, by far, want FR to continue to be a conservative site for conservatives.

I don't know... it seems "conservatives" really don't follow one particular line of thinking. Many self-titled "conservatives" on FR and other forums disagree with each other on major issues. I myself do not identify as "conservative", even though I vote GOP (though I've also voted LP) and agree with "conservatives" on most issues.

I'm not a fawning fan, nor do I need pictures. If you need them, there are plenty of sites that are on the web that can accommodate you.

I am engaging in civil discourse, as to a significant issue to conservatives, in which Ms. Coulter provided a well reasoned view, but because it did not please certain sycophants, them attacked not her ideas, they attacked her personally.
Post photos if you want, Photos are shallow, it's conservative ideals that count. And shame on those who attacked a conservative icon, because it didn't suit their current agenda.

I am hopeful the trend I mentioned does not continue. It would be a shame to see this site turn into something akin to the National Republican Senatorial Committee or, God forbid, the California Republican party.

I find myself far more comfortable with conservatives, preferably the hard right rudder ones.

As for Roberts, his choice again confirms that Dubya, Rove, etc. are political geniuses. They've nominated a solid mainstream conservative who is pro-life and the Democrats can't touch him.
