A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

Ouch! Saw a young guy at the fair making rustic frames holding the frames in his lap while he shot nails into the top of the frame - with a nail gun. If that nail hits a knot it's liable to go anywhere.

Went back over to the fairgrounds to hear Joe Diffee in concert. Click on his picture to hear one of the songs he sang. (Let me know if it doesn't work)

yes, good call. I like to freeze mint leaves inside the ice cubes for a little added flair.

I shot a 3 1/2 inch spike into my foot.

Ouch!Sorry to hear that, Russ. Hope it heals rapidly.

I read a few months back where a woman zapped herself in the forehead with one. She was fine. Amazing.

I love tropical (Hawaiian ) shirts and it is nice to see more men wearing them.. I even have a couple myself. How about "wear a red Hawaiian shirt Friday" ?

All, our get together went very well. The NICEST summer day we have had in Ohio for.. gee, years??? low 80s, dry, sunny, gentle breeze. Mama/Amy could not understand what we had been complaining about weather wise.

Present were a great mixture of folks & many had never met each other & a couple renewed from years ago when they met at this event/ that FReep etc.

Little Miss Marinsa is a gorgeous little gal (and she knows it) and so full of spunk, energy, smiles, questions. She was fun to have with us. MIA was Lori's pup..

Lori & Amy are pretty tired. Lots of go/go/go & not much sleep/sleep/sleep. I took a fair amount of pix & will post a teaser maybe tomorrow.. saving most for the thread that several of us will put together for the Finest.

I will see Amy on Wednesday or Thursday next week while Lori continues her travels in WV...

Well I need to crash. I hope you all had a great day & did some fulfilling things along the way

Good Morning deadhead!
How are you today? I love that old lady.:) She's a hoot.

My dog seems fine. Hubby says wait and see because the two dots on her skin were so small. I'm going to keep an eye. We'll see.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Garbage Detail

Read:
1 Peter 5:1-6

All of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility. —1 Peter 5:5

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 52-54

cover It was once my privilege to preach in a church where love and warmth were especially evident. I was impressed by the members' willingness to pitch in and work. On the Sunday I spoke, three services were scheduled. The women of the church had provided a bountiful meal to be served between the meetings for visitors who had traveled a long distance.

Following the dinner, after most of the people had left, I noticed a distinguished-looking couple clearing the tables and dumping the paper plates into large plastic bags. When I complimented them on what they were doing, they said matter-of-factly, "Oh, we're the 'garbage detail.' We volunteered to clean up after every church function. We consider it a ministry."

How wonderful that this man and woman were not only available to serve the Lord, but they humbly did what others might consider demeaning work. These dear people were glad to be what they cheerfully called the "garbage detail."

Some members of the body of Christ are called to serve in places of prominence; others to labor quietly behind the scenes. Regardless of what the Lord asks us to do, let's be willing to do it by serving one another through love, knowing that ultimately we are serving the Lord. —Richard De Haan

There's surely somewhere a lowly place
In earth's harvest fields so wide
Where I may labor through life's short day
For Jesus the Crucified. —Prior

There is no insignificant task in the church.

Sorry I missed it!
I wasn't getting my announcements, so I didn't know about these. I have since corrected it and hope to make a gathering some time in the near future!

Good morning, Mayor. I hope you are having a good Sunday. Today's Our Daily Bread reminded me of a song by Ray Boltz.

Thank You

I dreamed I went to heaven
And you were there with me;
We walked upon the streets of gold
Beside the crystal sea.
We heard the angels singing
Then someone called your name.
We turned and saw a young man running
And he was smiling as he came.

And he said, "Friend you may not know me now."
And then he said, "But wait,
You used to teach my Sunday School
When I was only eight.
And every week you would say a prayer
Before the class would start.
And one day when you said that prayer,
I asked Jesus in my heart."

Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.

Then another man stood before you
And said, "Remember the time
A missionary came to your church
And his pictures made you cry.
You didn't have much money,
But you gave it anyway.
Jesus took the gift you gave
And that's why I'm here today."

Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.

One by one they came
Far as the eye could see.
Each life somehow touched
By your generosity.
Little things that you had done,
Sacrifices made,
Unnoticed on the earth
In heaven, now proclaimed.

And I know up in heaven
You're not supposed to cry
But I am almost sure
There were tears in your eyes.
As Jesus took your hand
And you stood before the Lord.
He said, "My child, look around you.
Great is your reward."

Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.

Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.
