Reactions to the Supreme Court Nomination of John G. Roberts The Associated Press Published: Jul 19, 2005

Reactions to President Bush's nomination of John G. Roberts to the Supreme Court:

"The president has chosen someone with suitable legal credentials, but that is not the end of our inquiry. The Senate must review Judge Roberts' record to determine if he has a demonstrated commitment to the core American values of freedom, equality and fairness." - Senate minority leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

"Judge Roberts is the kind of outstanding nominee that will make America proud. He embodies the qualities America expects in a justice on its highest court: someone who is fair, intelligent, impartial and committed to faithfully interpreting the Constitution and the law." - Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.

My hope is the Repubs stick with this guy. It seems he is what is needed on the court.
Now prepare for the Spanish Inquisition.

Let me add to the list Paula Zahn (CNN) - She looked like she was going to cry tonight. She said the Administration had $18MM to spend on the process. Yes, the Administration.

Dollars to donuts they had this quote in the can no matter who Bush chose ...

"We are extremely disappointed that President Bush has chosen such a divisive nominee for the highest court in the nation, rather than a consensus nominee who would protect individual liberty and uphold Roe v. Wade." - NARAL Pro-Choice America.

... another group who opposes a nominee because they are not liberal judicial activists.

On FNC, Bill Kristol speculated that Roberts is really the one who will eventually replace Rehnquist as CJ and Bush will appoint a REAL conservative to the vacancy created when Roberts moves to CJ.

That is a very exciting prospect and would really cement the conservative leaning of the SCOTUS.

NOW is having palpitations.

http://now.org/

It's too bad that since they failed to turn the presidential election, and blew their wad in a spectacular failure trying to turn the the California governor's election, everyone now knows they have no political power.

We are so screwed. This guy is no Scalia. Watch the reaction from the Dems. Some liberals will make a big stick to provide political cover, but this is Souter II, and the Dem reactions will be the proof.

Tough cookies. A host of NARAL's graying harridans will have passed to their eternal reward when Justice Roberts is stripping the bogus penumbras and emanations from the Constitution.

Fair, fair, fairness, fairy.

What do Blue Senators from Red States have to say?

I'm thinking they approve - or they'll be "retired" from their no-job gravy train.

Senator must be peeing in his white sheets.

The only issue here is whether we are going to let liberal pressure groups choose our Supreme Court Justices.

Kinda like how Schumer planned in his cell phone call? Schumer went on to say how hard it was to predict how a Supreme Court justice would turn out: “Even William Rehnquist is more moderate than they expected. The only ones that resulted how they predicted were [Antonin] Scalia and [Ruth Bader] Ginsburg. So most of the time they've gotten their picks wrong, and that's what we want to do to them again.” Yeah, right.
