Got this from the GOP today.
http://www.JudgeRoberts.com Tonight, President Bush made one of the most important announcements of his Presidency: his nomination of Judge John G. Roberts Jr. to be a United States Supreme Court Justice. Judge Roberts is a highly qualified man with sterling judicial credentials. He is fair-minded and compassionate and understands his job is to faithfully interpret the Constitution, not to legislate from the bench.
President Bush selected Judge Roberts after an unprecedented outreach effort, consulting with Democrats and Republicans alike. He has been thorough, thoughtful and deliberate throughout the entire process.
Now he needs your help.
To ensure Judge Roberts is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, I need you to do three things.
1. Call your senators, tell them Roberts has your support and deserves theirs.
http://www.gop.com/GetActive/CallOfficials.aspx 2. Sign our petition in support of the timely confirmation of Judge Roberts.
http://www.gop.com/GetActive/Petition.aspx?PetitionID=5 3. Call talk radio, write a letter to the editor of your local paper and tell your friends and neighbors why you support the President's choice.
Judge Roberts has a record that demonstrates a commitment to faithfully applying the Constitution and not legislating from the bench. For more information on the nominee go to
http://www.JudgeRoberts.com The bottom line is the President needs your help. By taking the actions above, your elected officials, your party and your friends, family, and neighbors will know you stand with the President in support of this outstanding nominee.
It is imperative you do all you can to help Judge Roberts become the next Supreme Court Justice. Thank you for all your hard work.
Sincerely,
Ken Mehlman,
RNC Chairman

I saw those. What a cute little boy. I can't believe the President and the Judge kept straight faces through those antics.

To: RonDog
Okay, the only problem I have with him so far is the cutsie family names. John, Jane, Jack and Josie.
Not a fan of the whole matching letter bit.

I think the little tykes antics are precious. Here it is, late at night, they're all dressed up in unfamiliar surroundings, know something important is going on and then all those cameras start snapping as dad walks down the hall with that other nice man.
He had energy he needed to discharge, lol. And it explains the very brief twittering that I heard when the President first started his speech. It was shushed right away and the Pres also had an amused look on his face.

Judge John Roberts is a well-respected jurist in this town. I'd love to meet the other 2.9 percent that, when I did the Freep poll, who also voted for him. Bet they work in Washington, and understand:
He is an intellectual giant and a good and moral man. The posts that focus on any one issue (and yes, that includes abortion) do a disservice to both the Court and to Judge Roberts. Many, many issues of national importance will be before him. It is his deliberative, intelligent character, above all else, that is critical. He is much beloved, frankly, by even judges who disagree with him because of his mild-manner and intellectual approach to the law.
His Supreme Court practice was so vibrant and esteemed -- it's not just the number but the quality of the cases -- that he's one of few litigators of whom it could arguably be said that his appointment to the DC Circuit was a lateral transfer. (This might be true of few others, including on the left Carter Phillips.) But he was born to be a judge and he'll be a good one. Nomination battle will largely be a self-inflicted Democratic wound: which of these underqualified legislative assistants is going to score a direct hit against one of the best litigators in town? It's so ironic: I doubt there is, frankly, anyone on Capitol Hill with his credentials.
President Bush, Judge Roberts, the Supreme Court bar is delighted. The delight is about an intelligent, honest moral man being there. That's much more important than the politics, and so should it be to all of you who are patriots and care about an entire branch of government here.
