VERY disappointed that the president did not pick a woman. I was hoping he would.

Genertic talking points. Would have been operative regardless of the nominee.

The reason I asked for anyone to prove Roberts is conservative is because I have seen nothing to prove his judicial philosophy, one way or the other.

Sounds like you got some homework to do, chief. Maybe you should get to it instead of taunting people and demanding that they do it for you.

Hopefully this guy will be 100% pro-life. No room for wiggle on that subject!

She now says it's 65% of the American people.

Give her a couple of days and she'll be saying its 115% of the American people.

I even got on Rush and told him I disagreed with him.

I heard you. You did a good job trying to explain it to him.

I've been back and forth on that. It does look like it's a net positive for us though.

Uneducated guessing and caviling constantly about President Bush, without knowing very much, is really a silly thing to do. ...I and many others here, are sick and tired of those who have wasted bandwidth, time, and energy complaining about who they were certain that the president was going to nominate. "

On July 2 I said in one post, "Personally I think that we are going to be stuck with Gonzales." That 63 character sentence in one post constitutes the entirety of my posting about the identity of the SCOTUS nominee before Roberts was nominated. To you, that sentence was magically elevated to "uneducated guessing and caviling constantly" that wasted bandwidth, time and energy. It even revealed to you the extent of my education about the nominees! Not resting for a second, you went on to conclude that the sentence expressed my certainty -- not just a guess, but certainty -- about the identity of the nominee. You made my sentence work triple overtime, and you owe it plenty.

So, how long have you worked for the MSM?

Alert Alert!

Dear Patricia,

Tonight, President Bush made one of the most important announcements of his Presidency: his nomination of Judge John G. Roberts Jr. to be a United States Supreme Court Justice. Judge Roberts is a highly qualified man with sterling judicial credentials. He is fair-minded and compassionate and understands his job is to faithfully interpret the Constitution, not to legislate from the bench.

President Bush selected Judge Roberts after an unprecedented outreach effort, consulting with Democrats and Republicans alike. He has been thorough, thoughtful and deliberate throughout the entire process.

Now he needs your help.

To ensure Judge Roberts is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, I need you to do three things.

1. Call your senators, tell them Roberts has your support and deserves theirs.

2. Sign our petition in support of the timely confirmation of Judge Roberts.

3. Call talk radio, write a letter to the editor of your local paper and tell your friends and neighbors why you support the President's choice.

Judge Roberts has a record that demonstrates a commitment to faithfully applying the Constitution and not legislating from the bench. For more information on the nominee go to www.JudgeRoberts.com

The bottom line is the President needs your help. By taking the actions above, your elected officials, your party and your friends, family, and neighbors will know you stand with the President in support of this outstanding nominee.

It is imperative you do all you can to help Judge Roberts become the next Supreme Court Justice. Thank you for all your hard work.

Sincerely,

Ken Mehlman,
RNC Chairman

The "conservative base" never took the time to listen respectfully to Graham.

I'd have thought his place as one of the House Managers in the impeachment hearings would have earned him at least a listening to.

President Bush still has a chance to appoint a woman. I'm thrilled that he chose Judge Roberts. I am not someone who thinks gender matters but would rather have the best PERSON for the job. Paying too much attention to gender or race is against everything that I believe in. I believe in individual PEOPLE and their qualifications.

Let's see. He's a member of the Federalist Society. His wife is Executive VP of Feminists for Life. He worked for Reagan. He worked for Judge Friendly. He worked for Chief Justice Rehnquist. He has authored 40 opinions on the DC Circuit, only two of which have garnered dissents. He argued, on behalf of the Bush 41 administration, that Roe was a poor legal decision. Conservatives who know him all rave.

I doubt that rises to the bar you were setting, but I think for most reasonable folks, they would think the ball is in your court to prove he is not a good conservative, the way the ball is in Schumer's court to prove he's not an eminently qualified Supreme Court nominee.

It's hard to listen that when you're out in the barn gathering up pitchforks, tar and feathers.

Roberts is the single most qualified person on this planet to serve on SCOTUS. He is just off the charts in every way imaginable.

Agreed.

And that is what bothers me about this choice.

Disagreed. I think the President did the right thing. Find the best person available, and then back him.

When another opening comes up, repeat.

The future is too unpredictable to say, "save him for later."

And the scenario could turn out differently from what you suggest, anyhow. This nomination could prepare the way nicely for the next couple, in terms of confirmation. I'm thinking along the same lines as Pukin Dog in post 1288.

Give her a couple of days and she'll be saying its 115% of the American people.

They have to lie about everything. Otherwise they wouldn't even have a case. They can't argue facts because they don't have any.

Just wait, they are going to start the "EXTREMIST" mantra before the night is over.

What was so funny was Tucker Carlson (I really can't stand his show but there is nothing else on. lol!) just started laughing at her.
