"When he returned, he said to the group, which included the leaders' wives: "I just offered the job to a great, smart 50-year-old old lawyer who has agreed to serve on the bench."
That would have tipped me off to who it was he picked. The key phrase is "50-year-old." Out of the 11 potential candidates the President interviewed only one was 50 years old.

she's black, a woman, but she's conservative. Not only she's conservative, she's my brand of conservative.
I hope she will make it to the SCOTUS. Her opinions will become classics in my lifetime.

RE: Rehnquist's reasons for delaying retirement:
"I think his main concerns have been, and are, for the best interests of the country and the court itself, and his hanging in there can only help the process in our favor."
Thanks for the bright comment, Lucy. You're right. I don't subscribe to the theory that he's "ego driven" and just wants his name prominently in the history books. He isn't a shallow little man...........as is the shallowest of them all - Billary Klintoon.
Thanks for your nice remarks!

"I heard Lindsay Graham on Hannity and he appeared to have grown a pair. Did anyone else hear this? He said that the "understanding" was DEFINITELY that a USSC position was not an "extreme circumstance," and that (this was before Roberts' name was out there) that he (Graham) "expected" the President to name a "solid conservative," because that was what he was elected to do."
Earlier this week, my wife and I watched the old movie about the body snatchers from outer space. One of the pods must have snatched Graham's body during that show.

This frozen brain stuff is scary, because they're basically saying "I don't trust anyone but me." A bit solipsistic, aren't they?

this worries me. Yahoo reported that he stated in his appellate confirmation that:
"Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land. ... There is nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent."

GW is like the karate, guy, the harder they charge him the further he flips them using their momentum. Until they hit the wall so hard they become crash dummies.

I think it's mainly a role for public consumption, for occasional pronouncements about the state of the judiciary, etc. May not matter as much as people think, but still could be really bad to have the WRONG person in such a visible role.

Did you hear Lindsay Graham on Hannity? This guy sounded like Rush, claiming EMPHATICALLY that the "deal" did not include USSC justices as "extraordinary circumstances" and that he EXPECTED (before the announcement) Bush to nominate a "SOLID CONSERVATIVE." I kid you not, Graham must have heard from his constituents. He sounded like Attila the Hun today!
