How many votes will the pubs lose if you and Pat Robertson start running the country?

Do you know why it was necessary for her to say it at all? Couldn't she have just said it is the "law of the land".
To me,the "settled law statement" seems to imply it is settled and final in her mind as well. That is not said but it seems implied. This may well be a clever phrase. I guess I am feeling better about it. Thanks for pointing out the obvious; right now it is settled law.
If someone could assure me she is a practicing Catholic, I would be feeling great!

Bull. You could close down the nation's abortion clinics in a single day using normal police. They do it all the time, "coordinated nationwide raids".

By what legal method could this be done?

second hand, but a Texas Fed Soc member says that they heard from someone who works at the court in New Orl.

Hopefully somewhere someone got something wrong...or they do to her what they did to Judge Jones back in the Souter days....bring her up and then trot out someone else.

I thought that the pick would be (and surely will be later) Gonzales. I FEAR that Clement will vote on the court just like Gonzales would have.

This is my problem. You think and you fear. You have no proof to validate either. I'm not interesting in feelings. I want facts.

I understand the source of the fear, but I have no use for it.

From what I've seen the question isn't whether she is a solid Judge in rulings but whether she is opposed to overturning bad precedent set by the Supremes if she becomes a member of that court. That is the direction to take this inquiry.

No question there are other Judges that the base would know this answer to on hearing their name. But, so far, Clement is leading the possible replacement stakes and I want to know how she feels about this. Anything else is a distraction.

She (Edith Clement) has been strongly supported by Mary Landrieu, who is on Emily's list.

If that's true, this is a bigger outrage than Alberto Gonzales being nominated.

Sen. Boxer Calls Nomination of Supreme Court Justice " an Extraordinary Circumstance"
Fox News

Posted on 07/19/2005 2:33:16 PM EDT by fedupjohn

Senator Barbara Boxer appearing on Fox News this afternoon was asked about the 'Gang of Seven' deal not to Filibuster nominees unless it is Extra-ordinary circumstances; declared that "with the right to privacy and Roe v Wade on the table this is an Extra-ordinary circumstance and the Filibuster is on the table".

Well people they just moved the goal posts.

Bush doesn't care about who has their name out there in the rumor mill. He cares about who he wants.

If anything, having her be the only name floating might make Bush LESS likely to pick her.

Keep in mind, as I have said many times, President Bush will probably name four new Justices and a new Chief Justice before he is done.

From your lips to God's ears!

Why would he do this to his nominee? Naming the person this early is going to mean they have to endure a long pounding.

Can anyone take a look at tradesports.com com and see who is winning their Supreme Court futures contracts?

Can't check that site at work right now.

How can you call her a moderate when she's a Southern republican who is Catholic and a member of the Federalist Society

Ted Kennedy and John Kerry are Catholics. Saying she is a catholic is not reassuring.
