I think I'd like Bob Knight on the bench. West Texas, gun-toting, and conservative as can be. Clarence Thomas has actually spent the night at Knight's house. Can you imagine the hearings?

A member of the Federalist Society that believes Roe is settled law and not reversible?

OUCH! That was a tad harsh. Come on now.

I'm nowhere near there yet. There's no way I could vote for a demonicRAT in 2006, 2008 or any year for higher office. It's far more important to me to keep them from power than to "punish" Republicans, frustrations notwithstanding.

my gosh, jumping the gun a bit aren't you?
She's a appeals court judge who should be expected to say that "Roe" is settled law.
She's a Federalist society member, you don't keep that standing without knowing that by that title you likely have given up some invitations and back-pats from the elites.
Do you really, really want a 5-4 "Roe" reversal?
The only way you change Roe is to change the culture.

This is an enormous moment in the lives of millions of people not yet conceived.

Please note that most of them would grow up to be DUmbocRATs anyway, LOL.

Thanks Howlin. Lurking from work, as usual.

Bush could nominate Tom Brokaw to the Supreme Court and Howlin will defend him to the hilt. She's kind of like the Eleanor Clift of Free Republic.

The source is my observation. This will quickly descend into a shouting match if I list all his failures to grasp history, but one of the most glaring is when he signed campaign finance into law and said basically that it was unconstitutional but he was leaving that up to the courts.

With regards to his speeches, though we can't ever prove it one way or the other here, I'm pretty sure he doesn't add a whole lot to them.

GWB has some wonderful, awesome qualities. But they aren't the ones I am refering to when I talk about imagination, grasping history and tradition, sort of visionary thinking.

He is awesome at politicking, back room manuevering, that sort of thing. He is smarter than he appears, no doubt about that. But I'm pretty sure today we are going to see something which appears "safe" in the same way that Souter appeared safe. We will not see anything visionary, apocalyptic, out of the box, confrontational, or inspiring.

I do, however, relish being dead wrong from time to time. Hopefully this will be one of those cases.

The DUbious are just projecting Bubba's missile attack on an aspirin factory in Sudan onto the President. Bubba succeeded in getting Monica off the front pages for a few days after that.

I suspect the President is going to do the right thing. And, when you think about it, we can only all wait now, right?.

And DAMNED if he does not do the right thing.

I hope I don't have to eat my words tonight; tick tock tick tock.

One thing is sure: like a lot of others here, I am NOT Pro-President Bush-No-Matter-What. We have to stand for SOMETHING.

Here's hoping for the best for our Republic and its future as a sane nation of morals and originalist laws. If it does not go that way, I'm talkin' a walk.

9pm eastern...hmm, what is the television lineup tonight? What's being sidelined?

The 2005 World Series of Poker on ESPN will air as planned.

In fact, the only litmus test the President is likely to employ is whether a candidate promises *not* to overturn Roe. Here's why.

That stupid strategy worked in the 20th century. This is a different time with a new media and people who are paying attention to more than the network news. Nominate someone who says Roe v. Wade is "settled law" and the whole show is over for the GOP.

Trivia question: Who was the last "Clement" nominated to SCOTUS, and what happened?

That would be Clement Haynsworth from Virginia, nomnimated by Nixon but rejected by the Senate followed by Florida Circuit Court Judge Harold Carswell who also got rejected followd by the villian of Roe v Wade.

Lotta drama queens at home during the day, it seems from this thread.

I prefer to have my reactions after the action I'm reacting to actually occurs.

I know, I know, I'm an old fogey... ;)

Why in the world would your personal pick be Clement when she has no track record of being an originalist on countless key issues and the Republicans have 55 seats in the Senate?
