A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

You'd Never Believe...

why this is not a super-duper-wonderful-knock-your-socks-off thread...
and instead a let's-see-what-we-can-throw-together-quickly effort.
But here are some possibilies

1.Oliver had 24 kittens.
2. The FBI confiscated my computer.
3. Hurrican Dennis took off our roof.
4. Woolfie and I had a mad 4 day get-away
5. I had heart, lung, liver, brain transplant over weekend.
6. I was out of state getting art lessons from Billie.
7. As I was kayaking on the Euphrates River I decided to visit w/troops a few days
8. My HTML went on pity-party strike for user abuse.
9. I went flying with Dutchess to California to see Just Amy & Mama_bear.
10. Diver Dave, Scubachick and I went to the Bahamas to check out the water and hurricanes.
11. I went to help Gabz following her foot surgery.
12.Snugs needed help in England with her dad.
13. Aquamarine needed some help sorting out her geodes.
14. I stuck my foot in my mouth(again) & needed to have surgical removal.
15. I joined Lance/crew for the most recent stage of the Tour de France..

Well, whatever the reason.. ..

HERE WE BE!!!! ..

And we will “be” for 3 days on this one thread. So post fun things, words of wisdom & use this for a three day HTML sandbox - think billie will be around to help ...but a few will be traveling.

And to use this time to wish a happy birthday to my DEAR son Jeff who turned 33 yesterday. His bride of 10+ years Shannon has a birthday today. Here they are with their two children at Stan Hywet last summer.

May the Lord of great love and of creation keep the men and women of our military in His loving and eternal care. May the families be immersed with peace and comfort as they proudly know their loved ones are giving their best for the things that are dear to all of us. AMEN

Below are names of some of our FReepers' loved ones who are serving our country. If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to Billie; Mama_Bear; Dutchess; Aquamarine; The Mayor; DollyCali, and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nation’s leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart.

On July 19, 1848, the First Woman's Rights Convention began in Seneca Falls, New York.

The idea of holding a women's rights meeting had originated eight years earlier in London, England when Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott and other women delegates were barred from participating in the 1840 World Antislavery Convention.

The real planning and preparation for the event took place on July 13, 1848, when Stanton, Mott, Martha C. Wright, Jane Hunt, and Mary Ann McClintock met over tea and decided to hold a conference to promote women's rights. The following day they placed an announcement in the Seneca County Courier advertising a Woman's Rights convention on the following Wednesday and Thursday. The first day of the convention, only women were allowed to attend; the second day, the general public was invited join the meeting.

* * *

Why We Oppose Votes for Men

1. Because man's place is the army.

2. Because no really manly man wants to settle any question otherwise than by fighting about it.

3. Because if men should adopt peaceable methods women will no longer look up to them.

4. Because men will lose their charm if they step out of their natural sphere and interest themselves in other matters than feats of arms, uniforms and drums.

5. Because men are too emotional to vote. Their conduct at baseball games and political conventions shows this, while their innate tendency to appeal to force renders them peculiarly unfit for the task of government.

The idea of women suffrage.. well, I had never done any reading on it to be honest.

Mornin Dolly :)

Just so everyone knows what a geode is. At first glance they look like just an ordinary rock...

... but when you open them up and they are full of quartz crystals.

Geodes (Greek geoides, "earthlike") are geological formations common to the United States (Indiana, the Keokuk area of Iowa and Kentucky), Brazil, and Mexico. Essentially rock bubbles with internal crystal formations, the exterior of a geode is generally limestone or a related rock, while the interior contains quartz crystals and/or chalcedony deposits. Other geodes are completely filled with crystal, being solid all the way though. These types of geodes are called nodules.

Geologists do not yet have a widely accepted theory about how geodes are formed, but it is believed geodes can form in any cavity that is buried. These can be bubbles in igneous rocks, pockets under tree roots, or even animal burrows. Over time, the external wall of the cavity hardens, and dissolved silicates and/or calcites are deposited on the inside surface. Over time, this slow feed of minerals allows crystals to form inside the hollow chamber. Then, over millions of years, the geode makes its way back to the surface through normal geologic processes.

The size of the crystals, their form and shade of color can vary greatly, making each geode unique. Some are clear quartz crystals, and others have rich purple amethyst crystals. Still others can have agate, chalcedony, or jasper crystals. There is no way of telling what the inside of a geode holds until it is cut open or broken apart.

A large geode roughly the size of a minivan was discovered in Put-in-Bay, Ohio in the early 20th century. It is known as Crystal Cave, and tours are possible during the summer.

Thanks for informative post.. I have a couple tiny ones & many of the cross sections.. Aren't the LARGE ones gorgeous?. Some that I have seen for sale (expensive) are 6 feet high and more linear. some folks like to put them next to fireplaces or other "set apart" places like bookends

Actually, in all modesty, I've acquired wisdom through sufferage. As the Chinese say, "The cause of all sufferage is craving. Desire things that you do not have, and sufferage will follow. Realize this and peace will be yours. Sufferage will disappear and contentment will reign."

I've seen that size at the Rock and Gem shows, think those are found in Brazil.

The amethyst are the most valuable.
(Mine are all the smaller round size.)

Hi, Mrs.N! I saw your pretty happy birthday table. I am at my MIL's house in Oklahoma City and I won't be setting any pretty tables till I get home. I don't want to stay on her computer for too long as it is dial-up and uses her phone line.

I can't get my laptop connected for some reason. It comes up that is isn't dialing at all. Very frustrating--just didn't want anyone to think I was missing in action! :o)

I'll peek in and say hi--Oh, Dolly--happy birthday to your son and daughter-in-law!
