CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Retired Gen. William Westmoreland, who commanded American troops in Vietnam the nations longest, most divisive conflict and the only war America lost died Monday night. He was 91.
Westmoreland died of natural causes at Bishop Gadsden retirement home, where he had lived with his wife for several years, said his son, James Ripley Westmoreland.
The silver-haired, jut-jawed officer, who rose through the ranks quickly in Europe during World War II and later became superintendent of West Point, contended the United States did not lose the conflict in Southeast Asia.

It is painful to read all the adulatory posts for this fool. He was a prig and a twit. I served under him in Vietnam. I hold him responsible for the deaths of thousands because of his bullheaded obstinancy -- he tried to fight WWII against the VC and NVA. He was pleased when the Kham Duc SF base was overrun in 1968 beacause this allowed him to finally kill off the SF, which was really our only chance of victory. He refused to allow support or reinforcement before the camp was overrun. Others must be out there who know the truth too. I can see his face now, in his starched fatigues and spit-shined boots, paying a visit to FSB Ross, looking with disdain at the unclean infantry returning from an op. I hope this man has only begun to roast in hell forever.

RIP. General Westmoreland.
The MSM still can't stop taking cheap shots, but history will be kind to you, reporting truthfully and accurately that the Vietnam War was a surrogate battle between the Us and the USSR in the Cold WAR, which we WON.
