Cheney's Chief of Staff Was Another Source for Cooper on Valerie Plame Story By Pete Yost Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney's top aide was among the sources for a Time magazine reporter's story about the identity of a CIA officer, the reporter said Sunday.

Until last week, the White House had insisted for nearly two years that vice presidential chief of staff Lewis Libby and presidential adviser Karl Rove were not involved in the leaks of CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity.

The White House refused last week to repeat those assertions when it was revealed that Rove had told Time reporter Matt Cooper that the wife of Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson apparently works at the CIA and that she had authorized his trip to Africa. The CIA dispatched Wilson to check out a report that the government of Niger had sold yellowcake uranium to Iraq for nuclear weapons.

Cooper said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that he spoke to Libby after first learning about Wilson's wife from Rove.

According to Cooper, Libby and Rove were among the government officials referred to in Cooper's subsequent Time story that said Wilson's wife was a CIA official and that she was involved in sending her husband on a trip to Africa.

Cooper's article was headlined, "A War on Wilson?"

1) The White House didn't refuse to repeat the assertions - they said that they didn't want to discuss it while a grand jury investigation is going on, which is the proper thing to do.

All that Moran and Gregory were asking was if Scott stood by what he said a couple of years ago. There wasn't anything improper about asking that or getting an answer on it. It wasn't a trick question. Scott said XYZ in 2003 and all he needed to say was he stood by that.

Tempest in a teapot - scott maclellans shocked reaction to being attacked by leftist reporters is not the real story here - though the dems would dearly like to make it one as their Rove must Resign claims fall apart.

Neither Libby nor Rove 'TOLD' anyone anything. They were receipients of a leak, not sources.

And, why is it that journalists get protection for their sources, they don't have to tell what they know - but officials of the US Gov't do? Why are they more powerful and privileged than the administration???

The PRESS was the SOURCE for this so-called 'leak.' In other words - it's the press chasing its own tail. Somewhere in their little mind, just like the dog, they KNOW it's only their own tail they're chasing -- but they love to hear themselves bark!!!

Cooper has some 'splainin to do....

In recent developments, several journalists, subpoenaed and threatened with contempt sanctions, have been interviewed by federal prosecutors regarding their conversations with I. Lewis Libby, chief of staff for Vice President Cheney. Libby, considered a possible leak culprit ever since the scandal surfaced, was said to have waived the responsibility of the reporters to keep their conversations confidential.

The three interviewees, Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post, Tim Russert of NBC, and Time magazine's Matter Cooper, apparently all attested that Libby did not identity Plame...

Could minor Ambassador Joe Wilson himself have been the source in blowing his own Wife's cover?

It is distinctly possible, (though it may be unlikely that Joe Wilson himself directly was NY Times Judith Miller's source), since Joe Wilson himself evidently routinely bragged openly to strangers about her CIA employment, prior to such "cover" being "blown" in the press.

Here's an example of Joe's apparently routine and open bragging about Valerie being a "CIA agent," which became known directly to me over a year ago:

He certainly bragged about it per a famous and highly reliable source's (named below) account of his own face-to-face encounter with Amb. Joe Wilson prior to Valerie Plame's "outing" as a CIA agent/employee.

Based upon a personal conversation (we were in a small group eating; it was NOT an "off the record") I had with eminent historian Victor Davis Hanson (we were at a luncheon table together during a trip to Europe), it appeared entirely possible that Joe Wilson himself was the (or one source, if not the original one) possible source in revealing his own wife's status as a CIA agent or employee.

Victor Davis Hanson (Wilson presumably knew Victor Davis Hanson wrote regularly for NRO (National Review Online), had done OpEds for the Wall street Journal, and other publications, and had his own Website with a widespread following) said he (VDH) & Joe Wilson were both in the same "Green Room" before a televised debate-discussion on Iraq, etc. and Joe first warned the TV make-up person not to get powder on his $14,000 Rolex watch, then he bragged to Victor about several things (possessions and trips to Aspen, etc.), like his expensive car (I think it was a Mercedes), and then bragged about his beautiful wife who, Joe Wilson said (braggingly) was a CIA operative.

I asked Victor Davis Hanson Why he didn't write up this account.(?) He replied that Joe Wilson would probably simply deny it, since only he (VDH) & Joe Wilson were in the Green Room together before the broadcast.

However, it is now easy to surmise that Joe Wilson is a crass, materialistic, self-promoting, vain, egotistical, bragaddocio-opportunist, so this account is perfectly consistent with Valerie Plame's TWO photo shoots in Vanity Fair. (Or was it Vogue? No, probably too crass for Vogue, n'est pas?)

If Cooper told the prosecutors and/or Grand Jury that he didn't have permission to reveal his source, AND he had that permission from Rover for over a year ... could he be targeted for lying to prosecutors and a Grand Jury ?

I wish I had saved that post about the woman who said she wanted to have Wilson's baby! It just defines the DU. If you noticed, I didn't hear back from that poster.

They are making such a hero of Joe Wilson, that I was thinking that it would be funny to start wearing tee shirts with a picture of Karl Rove and some saying like, Veni, vidi, vici on the bottom.
