WASHINGTON The husband of the C-I-A agent whose cover was blown is clearing up some confusion over a comment he made to C-N-N.
Joseph Wilson said yesterday that his wife, Valerie Plame, "was not a clandestine officer the day Bob Novak blew her identity."
Today, he says he was only pointing out that once her identity was blown, his wife lost her ability to be a covert agent. He says he wasn't suggesting that she had stopped working undercover for the C-I-A beforehand.
Wilson is continuing his attack on White House adviser Karl Rove, for discussing his wife with columnist Novak and Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper. The discussion came just days after Wilson had written in The New York Times that some of the administration's intelligence on Iraq's nuclear weapons was twisted to exaggerate the threat.
My point was, why didn't they just go home, or get a hotel room? And what was Valerie doing outing herself in the middle of whatever it was that they were doing to each other?
"blindfold?"
"cigarette?"
I think I figured it out. Mary Beth Cahill is the dems "mastermind" behind the whole Wilson thing. This has all the earmarks of one of her spectacular backfiring failures.
OK, making popcorn now.
That and play the Waco investigation hearings where Schumer made an ass of himself time and time again desperately trying to cover up the murder of dozens of women and children. the entire state of NY should watch him carefully during those hearings to fully comprehend what an inhuman slug that creature is.
Because they can - thanks to the MSM!!!
Now for the next two weeks I would like to have all that same media on talking about how Wilson was wrong and they were wrong.
But instead - the dimz and msm will find someone else or something else to waste money, time, and energy with. The only know fact is that it will be something about President Bush or close to President Bush or connect to President Bush.
My head is spinning!
Berger, Wilson, ex TX Guard liar, trumper of Delay charges,---who can keep up?
Where do they find these people??
But you can't show me where he said that.
"He lied about his wife referring him."
If so, at least a few other CIA employees lied to Senate Intel. Wilson isn't the only one telling his version of how that happened.
"He lied by claiming she was covert at the time of "exposure"."
I'm impressed that you know this. Apparently, you know some things even Fitzgerald doesn't know.
"He lied about Rove leaking her identity."
Based upon press reports, Rove told one reporter that "Wilson's wife" was CIA and confirmed for another. That may not be a violation of the criminal statute, but it is leaking her identity.
"He even lied about her last name saying it was Wilson, she never went by Wilson until recently."
Please explain how in the world you know this?
It seems that you wish to do nothing except repeat what you hear from others. It is palpably obvious that what many others are saying is just made up. If you have no problem repeating that stuff, you are complicit.
FYI
Plame set Bush up....Dan Rather all over again. (That didn't work either. Why?? Because if you start with a lie (Cheney sent me)....everything that follows is a lie.
You have made a good point about the fact that no one can find just where or if Wilson ever said Cheney sent him to Niger.
But regarding Plame's name, Novak looked in Who's Who and found she went by the name Plame. Until recently, that is.
Thanks for the ping.
Clintoon is an unusually good liar.
Wilson is an unusually bad liar.
This is a non story.
"I don't know about anyone else .. but I'm LMBO"
I'm right in there with you! This is one of the stupidest attempts to construct a scandal that the Demodogs and the Old Media FRAUDcasters have ever attempted.
This ranks right up there with the Hollywood rags. It is amazing that the libs are so blinded by their state of mind that they can't seem to hear the facts about this - like Fitzgerald's "Rove is not a target". Weird - and hysterical!
ROTFLMPO!!!
The 'good point' you mention is, IMHO, a pretty critical one. The entire RNC explanation for these events turns on that issue. That explanation is that the story of Plame's involvement in Wilson's trip was intended to rebut Wilson's false statements that Cheney sent him to Niger.
Hmmm... First, if there was a false statement that needed to be rebutted in the press, one might think someone could actually find it - instead of having to selectively edit quotes (which, btw, were a couple of months after the attempted 'rebuttal' - so that, even if they said what is being claimed, they didn't create the need to 'rebut' in July) to manufacture a statement Wilson apparently did not make. Second, if there was no false statement to 'rebut', then the retaliatory nature of the disclosure becomes much more apparent. I'm still not saying it was illegal - just slimy.
Third, and most importantly, is the question that no one is asking. It seems that both the documentary evidence of Plame's involvement - whatever it was - in the Niger trip and the fact of that involvement were classified. Why is THAT classified information being so freely discussed with reporters?
I suspect that the CHeney-Wilson issue is not based on what Wilson may or may not have said, but on how MSM and Bush opponents decided to play what Wilson said. Thus Everybody is reacting to the echo, not the original. Certainly my distinct impression has been that a case was being made that Wilson was sent by the WH to Niger and that when he came back with information they did not like, they attacked him. So much of the focus was on disproving the media story not what WIlson may or may not have said.
WDYT?
I haven't seen evidence that Wilson said that Cheney sent him on the trip to Niger either. I can understand why people think that Wilson said that, but thus far, no evidence has been presented to support that supposition.
As to the classified nature of Plame's involvement in getting her husband the gig to Niger, it was discuss, I think, in the Senate hearings which were televised. And I don't think the memo which was found, where Plame recommended her husband for the job, is classified.
But you've been able to delve into this more carefully than I have been able to, due to time constraints this week on my part.
I think it is based on the pol spin on all sides. Yes, the Dims were spinning the Wilson op-ed as saying a LOT more than it actually said. When you go back and read that piece now, it is a lot more benign that one would expect given the firestorm. It is not even critical of the President at all. But it is also the case that Admin supporters set out immediately to paint Wilson as a liar, and if that meant that they would also stretch what he said, they had no problem with that. So the entire tempest, IMO, was driven by the characterizations, on both sides, of what Wilson said - rather than what he actually said.
