I may be crazy but I see an internal attack by the muslims (nuclear) and then a piling on by the Chinese. I wouldn't be suprised if the two aren't working together. We are in serious trouble and no one seems to be addressing the problem. We are wide open to internal attack despite the much hearlded Homeland Security that seems to be aimed more at controlling American citizens than guarding the country.

The information that Joanie has compiled here regarding Red China and its abject threat is critical. The information is damning of certain officials of the former administration, and it is a direct warning and potential indictment of various officials in the existing administration to do their duty in order to protect and defend our nation, its constitution, our liberty and even our very way of life.

This week's threats from Red China, the recent joint China and Russia statements, the continuing massive Chinese military buildup...all of these point towards the inescapable conclusion that the time has long since past that we confront the truth about Red China and act accordingly.

End the coddling, end the coziness, revoke the foolish permanent favorite nation status, end the massive deficit spending and economic drueling over a potential that does not exist, never has existed, and was been created in the midns of certain politicians and economic leaders of this nation (and the entire west) for the express purpose of putting us in the position we are currently in...and worse.

Treat Red China the way Reagen treated and brought down the Soviet evil empire, and do it forthwith. It will be painful, but not nearly as painful as the consequences of failing to do so.

Our strategy has to be based on immediate response.

I couldn’t agree more. But the two main ‘after the fact’ things that concern me are:

(1) the newest Chinese missiles appear to be equipped with extremely modern anti-missile technology

(2) While our own subs will probably be able to launch effective retaliatory strikes, the damage/carnage done here at home could be severe in the meantime.

(3) China is not nearly as concerned about its own civilian casualties as we are, and, without blinking an eye, would sacrifice millions.

But frankly, our support for Taiwan, in any case, will be limited. Our military is no longer designed to sustain a war with China. At one time we were manned for a so-called "2-1/2 war" scenario, in which theoretically we could take on the Soviets, the Chinese, and the Cubans simultaneously … Those days are long gone. Now a war with a Cuba-sized military is all we can handle.

Again, I completely agree.

Ok, so, laying aside the Clinton treason for the moment, the fact exists that China has this technology now. If just this info can be put together to come up with the worrying conclusions seen above by the public, how much more info must the Government have which is not public, to generate an even more detailed report. Given that, what is the administration doing about this? They can't be simply sitting on their hands hoping it will go away. Bush must know that, terrorism aside, this threat is real and will eventually have to be dealt with.

So, we have the Chinese with the capability to launch one missile that produces a large enough EMP to allow them to lob the other 19 or so missile at us with impunity. We can certainly match them 10 times over for sheer destructiveness, but that won't make the craters on US soil any smaller. Certainly, any conflict with China isn't going to involve much in the way of a land war, so the condition of our ground troops isn't as much of an issue as some would make it. However, just what do we have in place that would give the PLA and PLAAF second thoughts about pulling something like this?

As much as big weapon systems get derided as wastes of money for pie-in-the-sky results, we may need more than a few on our side if we want to keep this situation from escalating.

The Faraday cage is only useful if there are no conductors going in or out of the cage. Is that realistic?

We will not be able to buy gas or buy groceries, etc because everything has a chip in it.

I don't think so.

However, those who can calculate change in their heads will be able to command substantial salaries in those times, as will those who remember how to use a slide rule.

"Nuclear subs are immune to EMP. Immune."

Not too many of us can fit in the subs of the world.

That's not going to make a dent for 300 million people.

Come on, what could happen? The stock market is doing so good lately.

The Chicoms are indeed an odd-thinking bunch but their reach for military strength is understandable. The task at hand is to figure what their strategic purposes in building it might actually be. The Chicom prosperity of the last third century (the great leap forward) is due in huge part to our willingness to be their best customer. W/O the USA as a customer (suddenly) China would revert instantly to a 19th century economy. Can someone remind me of a time when Chinese were suicidal? W/O the USA as a customer their commercial fleet would have to stay home. China mines coal but beyond that it has to haul fuel. There are enough US fast attack subs in the Pacific at any moment to send their fleet back to the ROWBOAT DYNASTY.

Who thinks the Ching family, et al, would suddenly be willing to give up their reefer or their computer (94 million PC's on line in China now)? As Gertz notes the task is to dope out how they might ACTUALLY use their MILPOWER?

The cars and trucks that would deliver the staples to us are mostly "chipped" - everything vehicle since the introduction of electonic ignitions will be stopped in their tracks. Only a few diesels maybe running.

All TV and radio will be gone. Not just because of the transmitters being melted down but because the receivers will also be useless.

Only a few ham operators with equipment current stored in EMP resistant cages will be "on-the-air"

Riots will ensue due to nobody knowing anything. No news will be panic news.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com i worked for a comany that had two of them... like trailers on stilts inside the plant. one was needed to stop anything getting from in and the other was needed to stop anything from geting out so never the twain shall meet.

Naw... :-)

Just make an emergency package of solar powered items (including calculators) put them in a waterproof container and store them in a 15 foot pond or pool. EMP wont touch em.

Homeland security is retooling itself right now to speed up the visa process and to process the amnesty applicants. This is in light of the fact that the white house expects CAFTA to pass and there will be a lot more "immigrants" coming in from Central America.

Question on subs on station? If we were to be hit with a senario like the one outlined and a boomer lost contact with the mainland, what would it's SOP be? Would they fire? Who (in this day and age) would they fire at; Russia, China, somewhere in the Middle East?

Those tests were not over Hawaii. They were quite far away from it. Not to say there is not a certain degree of hype regarding EMP. But an EMP laydown consisting of 400 - 500 mile high space bursts, in a grid of about 10 detonations over CONUS would be a complete disaster. Anyone trained in physics (I am) can see this.
