In other news, the US has a missile defense system and a second strike capability, and thousands more nuclear weapons than China could ever dream of. A single Ohio-class sub has more nuclear warheads than China's arsenal put together.

The Chinamen better watch it. They could be exterimated in an afternoon if we so desired. Fact.

“In the end you care more about Los Angeles than you do about Taipei,”

Works both ways. In the end ChiComs care about Beijing more than they do about Taipei.

A Colonel and North Korea, both deniable puppets that are used as provocateurs.

The Colonel spoke with the approval of the central committee, just as North Korea does.

This demonstrates how untenable China's position is with respect to Taiwan: they know they must go nuclear to stand a chance of taking Taiwan. As the military balance changes, however, they regularly re-test the proposition.

These are probes to guage American resolve. The best response is none; just let Bush's "whatever it takes" position stand.

Uh, I don't think this'll help their CNOOC/UNOCAL case. What a wonderful trading partner.

Can we really be sure the U.S. would launch a nuclear response to an attack by China?

Before Bill Clinton was in office, it would take a great deal of luck for a missile to make Alaska.

Bill Clinton did not only let Osama go, but also allowed rocket and missile guidance technology go to China so they can now bomb any city in the USA with ease.

This is more Clinton chickens coming home to roost and why I say Bill Clinton was the worst President of all time.

The citizens of L.A. and S.F. have clinton to thank that the Chinese have mirved warheads pointed at them. Clinton and his friends sold them the technology.

Bush disappoints me on only a few issues, and his policy towards Taiwan is one of the highlights. IMO, the President needs to show more solidarity with the Taiwanese people.

For instance...

........As Taiwan conducted these democratic exercises, it might have expected moral support from the United States as a sister democracy. Such support was not forthcoming, however. Instead, the Bush administration succumbed to pressure from the People's Republic of China (PRC) and sought to discourage Taiwan from holding the referendum. There were also quiet but unmistakable signals from Washington that U.S. leaders considered Chen a disruptive figure and hoped he would not be reelected.

What was surprising and distressing was the Bush administration's response to China's pressure. How much the administration was willing to accommodate Beijing became evident in December 2003 during a visit by Chinese premier Wen Jiabao. President Bush publicly scolded "Taiwan's leader" for seeking to change the political status of the island unilaterally and emphasized Washington's opposition to any unilateral actions.

In any case, neither the earlier exuberantly pro-Taiwan policy nor the latest pro-Beijing posture of the Bush administration serves the best interests of the United States.

All I know is Hu Jintao (who is the state president and general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee) is for upholding Marxist theory, he's increased censorship of the news media and harassment of dissidents there. On the other hand I do have a picture of him smiling as he bows to Dick Cheney when he came over for an official visit after 2000, so he can't be all bad. LOL

China needs a little old-fashioned subversion. When they get good and tired of a government, they level it and start afresh. We should be directing some energy toward making them good and tired of their masters.

Last month, Donald Rumsfeld, defence secretary, voiced concern about China's military build-up.

Aww, isn't that sweet...Rummy voiced concern over China's threat to murder millions of Americans and turn the West Coast into an uninhabitable wasteland...

And I am concerned whether it'll rain tomorrow and derail my golf game...

What a bunch of whackos running this country...

Of course the Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds. . . of cities will be destroyed by the Chinese.” Mr Zhu is a self-acknowledged “hawk” who has warned previously that China could strike the US with long-range missiles. But his threat to use nuclear weapons in a conflict over Taiwan is the most specific by a senior Chinese official in nearly a decade.

Why we continue to treat this repugnant state as a normal trading partner, making them wealthy and allowing ourselves to go into debt to Red China is beyond me.

These thuggish threats to destroy hundreds of our cities, made even in the same time period as Secretary Rice's July 10th visit to China, should mean that we treat China like we treated the former Soviet Union, not the way we treat a normal nation.
