Interestingly, whereas the US has moved away from the idea of battle field nuclear weapons, China has invested substantially into such capability.

“We Chinese will prepare ourselves for the destruction of all of the cities east of Xian. Of course the Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds. . . of cities will be destroyed by the Chinese.”

So much for deterrence and MAD!

“If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition on to the target zone on China's territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons,” Zhu Chenghu, a major general in the People's Liberation Army, said at an official briefing.

Bill Clinton's friend and campaign donor, China, speaks.

I'm sure they appreciate the help with ballistic missiles Clinton sold them.

My, my. The country we sent industry to...the country we sent jobs to...the country we sent technology to...is going to turn around and nuke us.

And still the free traitors grasp themselves in Michael Jackson style, while simpering and moaning about lower prices for consumers.

No doubt they will become even more excited about free trade when an American city is incinerated by a nuclear attack.

Mr Zhu, who has risen from the rank of colonel over the past five years, insisted he was expressing his personal views, and that they did not represent the policy of the Chinese government. Nor was he anticipating war between China and the US.

This is really the most important point.

Many Chinese know that in order to continue on the path of economic reform, they need peace and stability and won't give in to generals like Zhu. They know that strength comes through technological developement in a stable environment.

But I also think some Americans know that too and is looking for every way possible to add fuel to Zhu's fire so that a conflict can occur. Ya know, the "take em while we still can" mentality.

They are extremely nationalistic, with almost bellicose fervor and extremism, with a total disguise with the west, and especially with the United States. They are willing, able and prepared to conduct a first strike against the United States, all it would take is a return of one their hardline Marxist waiting in the wings for the opportunity to seize power. They are aggressively developing a blue water naval capability and are increasing aggressive with other nations in the region. Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, and are making aggressive yet weak territorial claims in the region, with the lightly veiled threat of force if they are opposed. They have little if any regard for human life or rights, so they do not have a burdening humanity, morality or conscience to weigh the consequences of their actions. Mutually assured destruction is not a deterrent to them. One must remember who taught, supported and guided the North Koreans.

Capitalism is the great machine that feeds us, but these days, it has no regard for consequences or tomorrows. All conflicts of interest between Defense and markets should be severed now.
NAVAL WAR COLLEGE NEWPORT PAPERS
China's Nuclear Force Modernization (PDF)
Lyle J. Goldstein, Editor, with Andrew S. Erickson

According to the 2003–2004 issue of the IISS Military Balance, one brigade (eight missiles) of the long-anticipated DF-31 inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM) is now deployed, with more presumably to follow in relatively short order . . . While this is not the first road-mobile, solid-fuel missile deployed by China, it is the first one capable of striking the continental United States.

The range of the DF-31 is 8,000 kilometers, which is close to 5,000 miles. Our west coast and several northern states in the Rockies are within its range. The DF-31 has a CEP of only 300-500 meters if not closer than that by now. China has already built its own GPS with plans for worldwide coverage soon, and it is accurate to within 12 meters. The Chinese DF-41 and other systems are under development. Some of those systems will reach any part of the United States, and our Defense does not know as to whether they've been deployed, yet.

The Chinese leadership has to love this "general".
All he's done is ensure that our first response to an
attack on Taiwan will be a counterforce nuclear strike
in the heart of China instead of a conventional attack
that would leave the nuclear initiative with China.
That means that China's only option is a nuclear "Pearl
Harbor" in advance of an invasion, which would provoke
a response that would make invading Taiwan all but
impossible.
