Homicide Versus Suicide- anybody else notice the switch?

I've noticed a trend lately in the coverage of the war on terror, and just wondered if anyone else picked up on it. Anchors on Fox News began to call the bombers in Iraq and elsewhere "homicide bombers" a while back, and continue to do so- just heard it in reference to the london subway attacks. CNN, the MSM, and MSNBC still call them "suicide bombers." Has anyone else noticed the change? Looking at it from my perspective, it seems like most of the MSM and cable news want to generate sympathy for the attackers by using terminology that infers that they were simply "dying for a cause", or some other such nonsense, while foxnews wants to do what it tends to be able to do more often, call a spade a spade and reference these people that blow themselves up for what they really are, people who commit homicide, using themselves as the weapon.

Work for lawyers -- you will pick up all sorts of bad habits (spelling, grammar, punctuation). :)
But as to your question: I thought there was a distinction in that a homicide bomber was one who survived the explosion, whereas a suicide bomber was one who perished.
But what do I know?

Best just to call them terrorists.

I always favored the term "Islamikazi", but it never caught on with the sissies in the media.

Yeah I noticed it too. I still think "murderous worthless terrorist scum" is the preferable term.

FNC has been calling them homicide bombers for a while now.
I heard one person last week on CNN say "...the possibility that there are now homicide bombers... suicide bombers in England is deeply disturbing..."
I presume it was a slip on his part.

I really need to learn how to not write in one long run on sentence. LOL! Don't worry about it. I've been doing the same thing for years. J
As to your question. I don't know.

I see your point- A Homicide bomber kills others, but may or may not survive- either he's at the scene, or he's planted a bomb. The suicide bomber, on the other hand, simply blows HIMSELF to bits, without taking anyone else with him?
That make any sense??

It does...and with remote control devices, the bomber doesn't have to be there.

Yes, good idea; so Joycean, poor taste, makes you look provincial, desperate, uncool, work on it.

Some time ago, I think at least a year or two, Freepers were suggesting that we should call them homicide bombers. It seems appropriate, since Muslims cannot achieve "martyrdom" unless they manage to kill somebody in the process of killing themselves. Murdering women and children is the whole point of the exercise. Otherwise, they cannot expect to get their virgins.

So do I.
Or how about "murderous thugs?" That's also the more proper description.
But as to whether these are "suicide" or "homicide" bombers -- just seems rather ridiculous to constantly try to make the politically correct distinction.
To: timtoews5292004
Personally I think the term "homicide bomber" is redundant and stupid. We all know suicide bombers are murdering innocent people. I don't see sympathy being generated by calling these nutbags "suicide bombers." It's actually a more descriptive term because it's telling you that they intentionally blew themselves up in the bombing whereas the term "homicide bomber" does not. I still call them suicide bombers and to me that's calling a spade a spade.

quite frankly I think they sound like idiots when they say "homicide bombers". obviously they're committing murder, the "bomber" part of the description takes care of that. suicide is "how" they're going about it. calling them suicide bombers isn't a compliment. it's just a statement of fact. don't read more into things than you need to.
now BBC's reluctance to call a terrorist a terrorist, that's something else entirely.

Best just to call them terrorists. But occasionally call them murderers for accuracy.

Suicide bomber is the more accurate term.
Use of homicide bomber, is spin.
