It's Venus vs. Mars for Singles at Weddings (This summer, hide your bridesmaids.)

NEW YORK — This summer, hide your bridesmaids.

So warns the promo for this weekend's new movie, "Wedding Crashers", which is about a couple of bachelors who show up at weddings uninvited to prey on lonely bridesmaids and especially desperate female guests.

The movie cashes in on two common stereotypes about weddings: that women hate attending nuptials alone, and that men, realizing how vulnerable weddings make single women feel, use the occasions to their advantage.

But how are true are these generalizations?

ROTFLMSO !

Read the replies...ALL OF THEM; not just mine.

You and I had several CIVIL replies between us, until you decided that I was "attacking"? someone else; which I wasn't doing.

I was explaining how far fetched the premise of this sophomoric, unfunny movie is and why. But this thread has now turned into an Al Bundy sort of guys' trashing weddings thingy.

WHY IS THAT?

Of course it's a movie and NOT real life...except that the two guys who wrote this garbage, claim that they did this.

,,, one of the two didn't end up being the 42nd President of the US, did he?

,,, indeed. You know, the one thought I have in mind when I think about this script or concept is "desperate". I know I wouldn't finance a crap movie along these lines. The concept puts the boot into both sexes from the word go. If guys have to turn strategic to the point of targeting weddings to pick up women and we're all to assume there's merit in that, Hollywood has well passed the use-by date. Some might say I'm taking it too seriously, but let's see how it does at the box office. That's the measure.

Oh, some males might find this movie a hoot, but NO woman would want them anyway and I think that it's really geared to 17-23 year olds anyway.

Naturally, the Senator with presidential aspirations, is made out to be an idiot and one of his daughters is a lunatic.

"LOVERS AND OTHER STRANGERS" is an hysterically funny movie ( and close to 40 years old ), which treats "wedding hookups" in a more realistic and funnier way.

I'm a Justice of the Peace and I have done many weddings. The form is always different with some weddings, usually a younger couple, where there are lots of singles and others, second marriages usually, where there aren't.

I have only done about 5 or 6 since my wife died and I have to tell you that I still stumble over the words, 'til death do us part.

,,, "you'll laugh, you'll cry - you'll kiss twelve bucks goodbye."

I'm way behind on plenty of titles I've been meaning to see. I wanted to see "The Aviator" when it came out and missed it. I'll buy it on DVD and look forward to the time when I can find time to watch it.

I think it's a disgusting concept of a movie. Besides it looks terrible. Almost as bad as Gigli.

Wasn't marrying your wife important enough for you, to remember how long you've been married to her, or are you trying to be "cute"?

There isn't one dang "cute" thing about me, LOL! I like it that way.

I'm also not a mannerless slob although I will admit I do come close.

I really DON'T own dark socks, haven't for years...I think Ross Perot wore white socks with his suits as well.

As far as knowing the years Wife and I have been married or the aniversary date...sure it's a milestone for me, so was my birthday...I'd be hard pressed to tell you how old I am at any given moment. I don't retain info like that, even though I am a Mensa member.

The way I see it, I'm not the problem you seem to think I am. Rather I beleive it may be more on your end not acknowledging there ARE a substantial nuumber of guyz like me who live hard and rough. I can skin a buck, run a trot line, fix just about ANYTHING with WHATEVER I happen to have on hand. Wife has crowned me King of Half-A$$...dethroning her Dad.

She often says there is no one she would rather have around if there is some kind of disaster. I can keep myself and my family, even in the middle of the woods and really all I need is my knife. (Victorinox "Fireman's" model at the mement although I'm looking at a new Buck or Bowie style as Fall approaches.

Basically Wife and I have a great marriage, deeply love each other and don't bother ourselves with often absurd little details like dates, aniversaries, birthdays, etcetera.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

However, I have not met any men who want to get married.

Where are you looking? I've found many men who want to get married. The trick is in finding the right one! :)

I have quit going to weddings because I am neither married nor interested in marrying, nor dating, nor looking for a date -- and weddings are geared to celebrate Noah's Ark Syndrome.

My sister inadvertently ended up at a big party whose sole point was to watch and celebrate the Gold Medal Hockey Game between the USA and Canada. She holds about the same view of hockey that I hold of marriage, and watching her trying to pretend that she knew or cared what was happening reminded me a lot of myself at weddings.

They're fine for people who like them. For people who don't, they can decline and go racing, like I do.

I see this movie as another chance to subtly bash men. Stereotyping men as predators while women are just too sweet to notice, or too desperate to care. This movie furthers the the thought in women that men are to feared and not to be trusted. Subtle but persuasive.

Almost all of thr wedding announcements I got when I was single said "Mr. Freedumb2003 and guest."

Many of them were of that middle size where I think strangers could have infiltrated and no one would have known.

In California there are a lot of outdoor weddings and they are hard to "control."

Maybe all these strict rules I am reading on this thread are regional?

From everything I see about this movie, besides the Hollywood extra drama of course, it seems the premise is spot on. As a former PUA, I found weddings to be almost always chock full of easy prey. And with a good Wing Man ...

Two guys from the N.Y. Post tried it out ( so they could report about it all ) and were almost always thrown out on their ear!

That's because they have no Game, and didn't follow the rules.

"I think it is totally silly. The weddings that I have attended do not promote such encounters. Everyone's attention is on the bride and groom, as it should be. It is, after all, their day.

I have not attended a wedding alone since my husband passed away. I am sure I would feel sad. I miss my husband and my marriage. Also, I would like to fall in love again and get married. However, I have not met any men who want to get married."

Dont give up. I lost my wife of 21 years to a heart attack three years ago and tommorrow I am gettting married to a beautiful, sweet, loving, intelligent Republican woman and we are going on a honeymoon cruise to Alaska. We attended her daughters wedding last Saturday and I did observe that the young, single people there were more interested in celebrating the special day for the bride and groom than trying to hook up. Have faith in God and He will look after you.
