I have quit going to weddings because I am neither married nor interested in marrying, nor dating, nor looking for a date -- and weddings are geared to celebrate Noah's Ark Syndrome.

My sister inadvertently ended up at a big party whose sole point was to watch and celebrate the Gold Medal Hockey Game between the USA and Canada. She holds about the same view of hockey that I hold of marriage, and watching her trying to pretend that she knew or cared what was happening reminded me a lot of myself at weddings.

They're fine for people who like them. For people who don't, they can decline and go racing, like I do.

Weddings are the celebration of two people getting married. It has less than NOTHING whatsoever to do with whether or not YOU are married, want to get married, date, or anything other than helping the bride and groom celebrate their union.

But, since you hate going to weddings and don't care enough about the people who invite you to them, to go and share in their happiness, by all means, don't go.
