-snip- In short, Joe Wilson hadn't told the truth about what he'd discovered in Africa, how he'd discovered it, what he'd told the CIA about it, or even why he was sent on the mission. The media and the Kerry campaign promptly abandoned him, though the former never did give as much prominence to his debunking as they did to his original accusations. But if anyone can remember another public figure so entirely and thoroughly discredited, let us know.

Har har.

The dems and the media are desperate for something (anything) to discredit the Bush administration. They're really pushing the envelope here. I think even the average American sees through this idiotic witch hunt. At least let's hope so.

I'm so glad someone finally said this. Remember when TIME called three whistleblowers the people of the year?

Rove "outted" a conspiracy by a political enemy of the president to discredit intel on the eve of war.

Imagine the reaction to a pre-Pearl Harbor Julius and Ethel Rosenberg-type couple working for the state department, claiming the Russians weren't trying to come up with a nuclear bomb---oh, um, bad example. ;)

Imagine the reaction to a pre-Pearl Harbor Plame and Wilson-type couple of Republicans working for the defense department, claiming the Nazis weren't planning on attacking their European neighbors. Would the NYT be attacking the FDR Administration, or the couple?

All this tells me is that ROVE did violate the law, didn't follow procedures and there is a "cover up" underway. Guess I'll be branded a lurker or what ever, but I am an arch Conservative and there isn't one law for some and another law for the politically connected. JMO

When Miller found out that Fitzgerald was on the verge of indicting Holy Land, she called the Foundation for comment -- and right after her call Fitzgerald believes the Foundation may have commenced a shredding party that ensured prosecutors would find little paperwork to go on when they raided the Holy Land offices.

This, btw, is someone Thomas Oliphant of the Boston Globe called "a good person" on Softball.

" Mr. Rove provided important background so Americans could understand that Mr. Wilson wasn't a whistleblower but was a partisan trying to discredit the Iraq War in an election campaign.
Thank you, Mr. Rove."

" Media chants aside, there's no evidence that Mr. Rove broke any laws "

The money quote :
" The same bipartisan report ( Senate Intelligence Committee ) also pointed out that the forged documents Mr. Wilson claimed to have discredited
hadn't even entered intelligence channels until eight months after his trip."

David Gregory and Terry Moran- Put down the Midol and chocolate and read this.

perhaps the next iteration of the "Truth-Telling" award that The Nation magazine bestowed upon Mr. Wilson before the Senate Intelligence Committee exposed him as a fraud.

Did they take it back?

Apparently, Valerie Plame was one of the operatives "outed" by Aldridge Ames to the Russians in the early nineties. That's why she was pulled from the field. Both to protect her, and because her cover was blown. That's why she was given the desk job at Langley, because she was no longer useful in the field.

How do you "out" somebody *twice*?

Thanks for this post. I have already sent it to friends!

I wonder if Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame will continue to pose smilingly for the cameras since they have been publicly discredited?!!

As soon as Bush names a nominee, the media will stop caring about this.

From Byron York at National Review (can you imagine this being an operable notion in the previous administration?):

If Fitzgerald would like Karl to provide you (Cooper's Lawyer) with some other assurances, we will.'" Luskin (KR's lawyer) says he got in touch with the prosecutor — "Rule number one is cooperate with Fitzgerald, and there is no rule number two," Luskin says — and asked what to do.

I love the rule no. 1 and there is no rule no. 2 statement. Sounds like something W would command (or something W heard his mom say before...).

Nice to see this in the second-most respected newspaper in the world, according to a recent poll. The NYT was seventh or eighth, as I recall.
