The critical breakthrough in the hunt for the London bombers came on Monday night in a police video viewing suite. Detectives involved in watching thousands of hours of film for glimpses of the terrorists had been given a "profile" based on a simple question posed for their guidance by senior officers.
The question was: what would the terrorists look like? The answer was that they would be young men, probably in their 20s and 30s, and they would be carrying rucksacks. At 8pm on Monday, on footage from a camera at King's Cross station in central London, officers found images of four young men carrying bulky rucksacks, similar to those in which soldiers carry radios.
One source observed: "It was like the infantry going to war, or like they were going on a hiking holiday."
One of the faces was known. It belonged to Hasib Hussain, a 18-year-old man from Leeds whose family had called the police casualty bureau at around 10pm last Thursday to say he had gone to London with friends and was missing and was a potential victim.
A West Yorkshire police "family liaison officer" was appointed to the family. Subsequently, documents, including a driving licence and cash cards which were linked to him were found in the debris around the No 30 bus in Tavistock Square. He remained a potential victim but, after his face was seen with the others at King's Cross, in footage timed at around 8.30am on July 7, he is now suspected of being one of the first four suicide bombers in Britain.
It is now believed that two other men, aged 30 and 22, also died. It is thought they have been identified as suspected suicide bombers by comparing images from the CCTV and from personal property found at three of the bomb scenes - Tavistock Square, Liverpool Street and Edgware Road. None of the men are related. Documents belonging to the older man, who lived with a partner, were found at Edgware Road. Documents linked to the 22-year-old, Shehzad Tanweer, who lived with a brother and father, were found at Liverpool Street, where he is thought to have died. All four bombs had up to 10lbs of high explosives.
All three identified men were British, of Pakistani background, from West Yorkshire. So far, the wreckage in the Piccadilly Line tunnel outside King's Cross is so appalling, with more than 1,000 body parts, that no identification of a fourth bomber, who is believed to have died in the blast, can be made.
There is no explanation as to why a bus was blown up. One theory is that the bus bomber was unable to get on the Northern Line, the intended target as the four fanned out in the four compass directions from King's Cross. How the bombs were detonated is so far unknown.
Yes, it was a harrowing experience for us. I awoke for no reason at 1:45 AM for no reason and went to the computer, telling myself that the whole time that this was stupid, there was no one on the internet at this time. I checked FreeRepublic and the first post was about the bombing. It had just been posted, before the report had hit the news. I checke the time in London and picked up my cell phone to call my son. He was just leaving the train station and was upset that he was going to be late for work. I told him not to worry, that it was a terrorist attack and to go back to his flat and stay there. They didn't even know what was going on at that point.
Angry young men, middle eastern origin, and attending a Saudi-financed mosque...oh, did I fail to mention a Saudi-trained Mullah? Its going to be real simple to stop this mess. You close down the Saudi-financed Mosques, and kick out these Mullahs.
I'm happy he, his friends and you, were spared such a horrible murder.
Yes, it was a miracle that they were spared, I have no doubt that the almighty had a hand in that.
That is so surreal. Thanks for the update.
Now, now, now. We should call them "safe refuge facilities" where Muslims can go when they feel threatened by "backlash."

"but if tommorrow, some dude with an OBL shirt and a backpack walked into the subway in NYC - I doubt that person would be stopped before boarding the train."
Methinks you are wrong, if said dude were spotted by NYPD or the Transit Police. The politicians may be concerned about whom they offend, but the cops want to be able to go home to their families at night. (Of course the LEO problem is, when you halt a suicide bomber who's under suspicion, and he detonates, he's accomplished his mission, and you probably won't make it home after all.)
That won't stop them, but it sure will make it more difficult for these cowardly murderers to get around.
Thanks for that post, I like the Brits
Families of the victims should file a lawsuit against the Mosque(s) these Muslim terrorists attend!
One question: What happened to all the reports in the days after the bombing that said these were NOT suicide bombs, but were on timers? What made them think that then? What made them change their minds now? Something smells funny.
Maybe it was a "work accident" -- the bomb went off prematurely, while he was traveling by bus to his intended target. It might have just been unstable, or perhaps he was trying to set the timer or arm it while on the bus.
they claim they have these videos, and I imagine they have some forensics from the point of the explosion.
the tin foil theory on this:
they have no idea who did it, they are clueless. its easiest to say "all the suspects blew themselves up". who is going to prove otherwise? they close the books on this incident quickly and move on, because they don't have the political courage to do what is needed to clean this scum off their streets. what's 52 dead in the big picture? not much.
I am put in mind of Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress." In that book, if any "New Chum" (a new immigrant to the moon colony) steps out of line, they are immediately ushered out an airlock by the populace that the fool endangered. Quick frontier justice. Thank God our President is a cowboy.
"Profiling saves lives."
True in many places on earth...just not in America since it is illegal to profile in America.
