But suppose this is just the beginning; i.e., "new Pope, new policy"? If the Vatican is lowering the boom on this stuff, every Diocese in the country can expect losses. Why would they single out New Jersey?
It looks to me like Benedict is taking this issue a lot more seriously than his predecessor.

Lot more than six.
The two serious offenders in our diocese were defrocked and sent to prison years ago. Back in the late 80s-early 90s, to be precise. A third offender (not a serial homosexual molester) was exiled to a monastery far from any laity for the rest of his natural life.
Pope Benedict is cleaning house in the more lax dioceses that failed to drop the hammer on these perverts promptly.
