2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Friday she was "outraged" that President Bush hasn't spent more money to beef up security on New York City's mass transit system in the wake of Thursday's train bombings in London.
"I'm absolutely outraged by the failure of the administration to release the [rail security] funding that Congress approved last year," the top Democrat complained.
"We are woefully behind where London and other subway systems are because London does have the video surveillance," she fumed. "I just don't understand what the holdup is."
Even before the smoke cleared in London, Clinton was on the attack, ripping Bush in a statement posted to her official Senate web site on Thursday:
"It is imperative that the millions of New Yorkers who travel on trains and buses know that our tunnels and facilities continue to operate with the highest security operations in place. The President’s budget calls for a $50 million cut in funding for rail and transit security this year, which is clearly a step in the wrong direction."
Mrs. Clinton vowed to continue to press the White House to get the job done, saying, "I will work to ensure that we provide the resources needed to meet our rail and transit security needs."
She's also telling the NYPD that what they are doing is nothing.....that only money will catch a terrorist. She's due for another booing session!!!
I'm just surprised she let Al and Bill speak first.
"As the co-president for eight years what did she do about terrorism? Seems to me her job was to lie and and cover up for Bubba and pretend no terrorist acts were occuring on their watch."
Bill and Hillary's coverup of TWA Flight 800 directly lead to 9/11. The shooting down of TWA 800 was planned and directed from Iraq (it was shot down on the anniversay of the founding of the Iraqi Baathist party). Since there were no consequences whatever and even a cover-up, it emboldened Iraq and Hussein to go for bigger game, which it did. I know I'm probably in the minority on this, but 9/11 was also largely run out of Baghdad as well (and yes, there's rather compelling evidence for this).
I believe the original problem was that Hillary wanted 9-11 funds allocated in a certain way....and she got what she wanted...but it didn't work...and they went back to the old way.
Why should the federal taxpayer subsidize NY's subway system? It would make more sense for the well to do NY taxpayer to subsidize mass transit for the rest of us.
Yes, we got 2 for the price of one. We got 2-0's.
Obviously the cameras in London did not prevent the subway attack.
How about if NYC beefs up their security? It's not like I ever go there, why should my taxes go there for a local transit security operation?
There is $600 million in MTA money slated for transit security, of which only $30 million has been spent--and that has been on "studies."
Seeing her with Yassir Arafat reminded me that I got a picture of George Bush sitting down with the G8 (or G13)and coming up with a plan to build the 1 million apartments and port that the Palestinians want in Gaza. I'll bet he got a lot more done than a $5b promise on paper.

It doesn't look like the video surveillance was very effective.
We tried video surveillance on some areas of the border with Canada and ran into major problems with it. So, wider use has been delayed. I don't remember wha the problem was.
