WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney got good news Friday during his annual heart checkup, with a pacemaker detecting no irregular heartbeat, his office said.
Cheney has had four heart attacks, and a pacemaker was placed in his chest in June 2001. The checkup determined that the pacemaker, called an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, was working fine and never had to be activated. The device is designed to activate automatically if needed to regulate the patient's heartbeat.
Cheney underwent the routine exam at George Washington University Medical Center. It included a physical exam, an electrocardiogram, an echocardiogram and a stress test. They are noninvasive procedures and the vice president went back to work.
"The vice president's cardiac status remains stable; his (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) neither detected nor treated any arrhythmia; his exercise capacity continues to be excellent; and his stress test is unchanged," said Cheney spokeswoman Jennifer Mayfield.
Cheney will have a colonoscopy and a screening test for vascular disease later this month.
In the afternoon, the vice president went to the British ambassador's residence, located next to Cheney's home on the Naval Observatory compound, and signed a condolence book for the victims of the deadly rush-hour bus and subway bombings in London.

Great news, I hope the arteries aren't closing up again.
Good news indeed!
Hey Norm!
Is Cheany getting a tune up in preparation for a Presidential run? (he would be good)
Wonderful news!
He's still the VP? I have not seen or heard from him in so long, hunkered down in that bunker someplace, that I had forgot he was still the VP!!! :>)
Don't count BIG TIME out for 08.
Hi EGGS!
Just keep Dick on the Segway and off a bike and he could do 4 years, I bet. ;-)
If he doesn't seek the nomination then 2008 would be the first Presdiential election since 1928 where neither the sitting President nor the VP sought the nomination.

He just saved a bundle on car insurance?
Change his oil, rotate his tires and Cheney is good for another 100,000 miles.
I'd like to see Cheney run for POTUS in '08.
I can't think of anyone better qualified for the job.
Semper Fi,
Kelly
I've been saying Cheney/Rice all along, but does anyone listen to me? Nooooo!
He has the all clear to run for President? :-)
He looks pretty healthy in that picture.
I'm listening and repeating it too. LOL
