World Stands With London After Attacks
Associated Press ^ | 7/7/05 | ELAINE GANLEY

PARIS - World leaders condemned the deadly attacks in London Thursday and quickly ordered security stepped up in their own countries, vowing to cooperate to track down the attackers in a globe-spanning pledge of solidarity.

Spain, bitterly familiar with terror after train bombings in Madrid killed 191 people last year, put its security forces on maximum alert, posting army and police units to watch over airports, train stations and shopping centers.

The government of Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero offered its "unconditional help to chase the criminals who perpetrated such a repugnant attack."

A similar response came from France, the object of attacks in the 1990s. Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin ordered the alert level raised and promised Britain the "immediate, full and complete collaboration" of French intelligence.

"It is a drama for Great Britain. It is a drama for all of Europe," Villepin said.

In Washington, the Homeland Security Department asked authorities in major cities for heightened vigilance of major transport systems. In the U.S. capital, bomb-sniffing dogs and armed police patrolled subways and buses.

In Denmark, former Foreign Minister Mogens Lykketoft said what others were remembering with likely dread: "This is the continuation of Sept. 11 and the attacks in Madrid ... No one can feel safe."

Russian President Vladimir Putin said terror attacks demand universal condemnation and unity, according to a Kremlin spokesman. Moscow officials ordered stepped-up security measures for the Russian capital's underground transportation system, a subway official said.

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder stressed the need for fighting terrorism "with all the means at our disposal."

As in many other European countries, Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt called an emergency response meeting to assess security measures in Brussels, which houses the European Union and NATO.

In Strasbourg, France, seat of the European Parliament, European Parliament President Josep Borrell, of Spain, expressed condolences "to all suffering consequences of these barbaric attacks."

"As a citizen of a country that only last year experienced the horrors of such terrible attacks, I want to send a message of solidarity with British people .... We will never let atrocities or terrorism defeat the values of peace and democracy."

At Vatican City, Pope Benedict XVI called the attacks "barbaric acts against humanity," and said in a telegram to Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, archbishop of Westminster, that he was praying for families of the victims.

"This is all wanton violence," Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern said after an audience with the pope.

Security in Copenhagen's new driverless underground system was stepped up, and, in Norway, the Foreign Ministry summoned its crisis team. In the Swedish capital, Stockholm, top police chiefs met.

Candles appeared in front of the British Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, shortly after news of the attacks flashed around the world.

Australia's national counterterrorism group met late Thursday, and Canberra set up a hot line for relatives of the hundreds of thousands Australians who live in Britain.

In Turkey, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul urged greater international cooperation against terrorism, saying it is a mistake "if we make a distinction between 'my terrorist and his terrorist.'"

Just as long as London stands too... unlike the cowards of Madrid.

It would be nice if even one of them tried to explain to the rest of the dimwits what is in the Geneva Conventions, without the anti-American spin. Instead, they all run willy nilly off the ledge like lemmings.

Thank god most of them ar way to obvious to ever run for public office and win.

To be honest, some office holders are are as bad as the worst of them. Hillary is worse, but for different reasons, mostly because she's usually smart enough to hide what they are stupid enough to share.

"That is exactly what I thought when I read this. All the European leaders are such freakin hypocrites. Since this attack happened in their back yards, they are scared sh*tless."

Including Britain? This is probably a result of Blair's cooperation on Iraq. I have friends with family members who rode on the subway this morning. Now is the time to pray for them, not attack the victims.

"Titles like this make me barf. What exactly does that mean? "We agree, those attacks were bad!"

Didn't our own politicians do the same thing? What would one expect, silence? How did I know these attacks would turn into a "bash Europe" mantra?

For the French "full collaboration" means sending the white flags to the cleaners.

"Maybe the world will get their head straight now that's this has occured twice in their own home turf, but even if they don't, Tony knows what they face. Our President know what they face. Our allies understand the risks. WE'LL stand with britain as an attack on them is an attack on us."

This has happened hundreds of times, not TWICE over there. They know QUITE WELL what they face, always have. A good friend of mine lost her twin brother to the IRA, an organization many Irish-Americans have supported financially, for decades. IRA terrorism was a romantic "freedom" notion to us before 911, as long as THEY were the victims. Now it is WE who understand what the rest of the world is dealing with, rather than now THEY understand.

He wasn't referring to Britain, nor was I. Britain has been the one exception in "Old Europe". The French, Germans, and Spanish have been completely unreliable in the WoT but the British under Tony Blair have been exceptional. No one here is bashing the Brits, especially those who were killed or injured this morning. We are simply noting that the Old Europeans have not backed up their words with actions over the past four years, and the future of the West is in danger as a result.

Why are the democrat leaders silent? No Kennedy, Pelosi. Biden, Reid, Durbin, Boxer, Schumer, Hillary, Leahy, etc., etc., etc.?

While President George W Bush is doing everything he can to Protect the American People, the ComuCrats are doing everything they can to Protect the Terrorists. Their stand makes you continue to understand which side they are on? The Party that sided with Russia, Pol Pot, Castro and Mao and every other tinpot Madman has suddenly decided that we have to protect the “rights” of Terrorists.

If we have a Terrorist who is suspected of wanting to kill Americans in the most hideous method possible then he gets what he gets. If they hang him by his thumbs to find out the plans of Al Queda, well too bad his head is still attached. If he gets to star is some perverted homemade photofest, well maybe he shouldn’t have become a Terrorist. The LibeRats want to give him all the rights that OJ Simpson had and more. They would require free legal advice as well as plenty of ice for his Strawberry Lemonades.

Americans know that the Rats do not have our safety or America’s strength at heart. These power starved elitists are the enemy of America and have the same goals as the Terrorists. These people hate America and everything she stands for as well as a special hatred for Believing Christians and Zionists. As the election showed, the American People are sick and tired of their constant knee jerk, heavy on the jerk; attack of America on any and every issue. From Abu Grabass to the Tsunami, these people will criticize and denigrate America no matter what we do. We are the evil to these people and the Terrorists are their last hope since their other Comrades are on the Ash Heap of History.

Miguel Estrada is a fine man who happens to be the wrong shade to be a Republican. The last thing that ComuCrats can tolerate is a minority that does not believe quotas are their only way out of poverty. Hispanics are already anti-abortion and anti-homomarriage, another words too sensible to vote for the Commies. Because Estrada oversaw a note about torture techniques for Terrorists he is being Lynched by a bunch of Angry Old White Men. Writing about the legality and limited rights to be given to Terrorists from a Country that routinely cut peoples tongues out and stone shrouded women, is now a lynchable crime?? Imagine that strained logic if we had a fair or inquisitive Press rather than a DNC megaphone? Sorry, but the Abu just doesn’t Grab me.

Why should any Hispanic or any other Real American vote for the Rats?? If they only fought just half as hard for America and Our Troops as they fight for Rapists, Murderers or Terrorists they would have a chance of returning to power in the next 20 years. Of course we don’t have to worry about that, since they are so reflexive and eager to bash Bush and America that they will continue to be Freakish Characters in some Mikey Mooreon Crockumentary! If anyone has any question you only have to hear the drivel about Terrorist “rights” and the 20 UFOhio Electors. Leopards, Zebras, Rats will never change, America is Always wrong.

The good news is that America is far more intelligent than the Rats. They can see through the lies they spew. We understand that these people have no business being anywhere close to the protection of our families. They think that we Red Staters are too stupid to remember what they do as opposed to what they say. We know whose side of the war that they are on. We know that there have been far too few instances where they have condemned Terrorists as opposed the numerous times they supported and defended these Bloodthirsty Animals. The only enemy of America they have condemned is Saddamn....oh yeah, never mind!

Pray for W and Our Troops

"One Brit is probably worth Fifty Continental Europeans in a foxhole anyway."

You are forgetting that there are wimps and warriors everywhere. People who get into foxholes, regardless of national origin, cannot be compared to continental tofu liberals.

Oddly, with the exception of Turkey, I don't see any mention of the Muslim world in this story.

I'm SURE it was a journalistic oversight.

I'm CERTAIN Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, et.al., are HORRIFIED with the attack and BOUND AND DETERMINED to help.

Excuse me, I have to vomit. Not even I can stomach my own sarcasm.

Until, of course, London/the UK actually do anything in response. As long as they're just passive victims, they'll get "the world's" support.

So now Blair is a martyr? Lest we forget, he stated after the French rejection of the EU constitution, that if the Netherlands rejected it, he would CANCEL the vote in Britain. Tony Blair is a threat to the freedom of his people, yet here on this thread I am seeing the usual Europe bashing.

"World Stands With London After Attacks"

should read:

"World Stands With London After Attacks, for now, until the anger subsides. Then the world (leftists) will blame them and say they had it coming."

Although I sympathize with the innocent victims, I don't stand with England.

I don't stand with Blair who is the prime mover of the "Road Map" to Israel's destruction.

I don't stand with Cherie Blair who "understands" and "sympathizes" with the "Palestinians" driven to murder Israelis.

I don't stand with the British union that voted to boycott Israel.

I don't stand with the Anglican Church- enemies of Israel.

The British have always been the greatest appeasers of the Arab war against Israel.

Ironic that it has not immunized them against the savages.
