There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

For all of you who want to see "the big picture" go to
http://earth.google.com/
Download the free version of Google Earth. London is one of the cities with a high resolution. Put in the locations of the explosions and you will be able to see the locations in relation to all of London.
Or just browse through the city. Awesome.

Remember the Islamists attacked the WTC TWICE.
I will bet dollars to donuts, the organizers are going to redo this attack in an effort to make the underground collapse as intended.

When 911 happened, I was so POed at the foreign "journalist", some middle-eastern, in NY trying to give their spin on everything and telling America not to jump to conclusions when we all knew it was middle-eastern terrorist. That is exactly how Londoners are probably feeling at this point. These middle-eastern "journalist" almost rejoice at these types of attacks.

8:48AM was the first plane strike on the WTC, same time at the first London bomb. That was my first thought also, when I first heard (about the times)...
Is it possible to feel sadness, resolve, sympathy, despair and pure bald anger all at the same time? It's...not unlike how I felt on 9-11.

Londoners are very strong people. I am sure their military will not take this lightly though.
Hopefully this sends a message to the G8 summit. Unlike the Live 8 BS thats been going on. This shows that we need to continue to eradicate these terrorist groups...

I also support much tighter border security and immigration controls, but that alone will not halt the Islamists.

As I said, the US could learn a lesson or two from then when it comes to these kinds of things. They don't scare easily. One of the blogs I read said that the pubs were doing booming business today. Everyone is staying calm, going to work if they can get there, and having a pint or two at lunch or in the afternoon. They sound like they've stayed very cool during all this, and my hat is off to them.

We have no need for Muslims here now....period.
At least stop letting them in unless they have helped us.

Muslim Council of Britain press release on todays attacks: >>British Muslims utterly condemn acts of terror The Muslim Council of Britain utterly condemns today's indiscriminate acts of terror in London. These evil deeds makes victims of us all. It is our humanity that must bring us shoulder to shoulder to condemn, to oppose and to overcome those who would spread fear, hatred and death.<< Contrast that press release with the one issued on 9-11: >>MCB expresses total condemnation of terrorist attacks British Muslims, along with everyone else, are watching events in America with shock and horror. Whoever is responsible for these dreadful, wanton attacks, we condemn them utterly. These are senseless and evil acts that appal all people of conscience. The MCB stands shoulder to shoulder with remarks made by our Prime Minister Tony Blair. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the innocent victims, their families and communities. We convey our deepest sympathies to President Bush and the people of America. No cause can justify this carnage. We hope those responsible will swiftly be brought to justice for their unconscionable deeds.
As the British Muslims come to the full realisation of these most awful events, which they condemn wholeheartedly, they too are beginning to feel a huge sense of fear. Terror makes victims of us all, it is beyond reason. Terror on this scale must not be compounded by knee-jerk reactions that would make victims of other innocent peoples of the world. This would only add to the devastation caused.<<
And with this press release on 9-13:
>>MCB expresses total condemnation of terrorist attacks in US
The Holy Qur'an equates the murder of one innocent person with the murder of the whole of humanity. We, the Muslims of Britain, wish to offer our deepest sympathies to the families of those who have been killed or injured following the atrocities committed in the United States.
We utterly condemn these indiscriminate terrorist attacks against innocent lives. The perpetrators of these atrocities, regardless of their religious, ideological or political beliefs, stand outside the pale of civilised values.
Terror effects us all. Terror of this enormity must not be compounded by knee-jerk reactions that would make victims of other innocent people. We would remind the government and the media that the consequences of unsubstantiated speculation in the past, such as the case of the Oklahoma bombing, produced a climate of fear among Muslims that should not be repeated.
There exists a heightened sense of insecurity amongst Muslims in Britain though we warmly welcome our Prime Minister's comments yesterday when he emphasised that Muslims in this country clearly condemn this atrocity. The Prime Minister warned against speculation that can endanger the lives of the entire community.
Our thoughts and heartfelt concerns are with all those affected at this mournful moment.
For further information please contact the MCB:<
Please note, for attacks in the UK they have no qualifiers or attempt to shift sympathy from the victims to those poor ol innocent muslims. Very telling. . .they condemn attacks on 9-11 but then claim victim status. . .shameless. Regarding the London attacks, no such attempt to mitigate the guilt of the attackers. Apparently, the country attacked makes all the difference.

Kudos to NBC for having continuous news coverage on this tragedy, a boon for those of us without cable TV.
