BLAST AT CITY TUBE STATION - FOUR BOMB EXPLOSIONS AROUND LONDON
Sky News ^ | July 7, 2005

Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189

There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.

There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.

The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.

A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

Well the picture in the short term is we could be a little dirty and independent or clean and dependent!

Then as an independent people we could and would find cleaner ways.

Just as you can hardly buy a house whilst paying exhoribant rent to a landlord but you CAN buy a not-so-nice house and fix it up at your own pace (if the gov't will let you.)

Dependence is not pretty.

When I turned 39, I told my dad that I had a problem... that we both couldn't be 39. He said I was right. "I had a problem".

The Brits are different. Their traditional hawkish military propensity will reemerge, hopefully resembling the Fauklands in vigor and depth.

Thanks for the update. I feel so much for anyone who looses a loved one to the blind ignorance that is islamic terror. I feel as if they are "my people" too.

Does that make any sence ?

Is it wrong for groups of people, such as myself, and so many families in London today, to feel a sence of solidarity in the face of such horific ignorant slaughter?

All valid points, but a large reason why people are against nuclear power plants is that the environmental nuts have convinced them they are all bombs waiting to go off (not true, and the newer designs are even safer) and that there is nothing to do with waste (also not true and a much smaller problem than the nuts make it out to be). The extremists do influence public opinion by misrepresenting the facts.

Yeah. . .but nuke power is cleaner and cheaper than other forms of power and it is the enviro-wacko's that have won the nuke debate by false propaganda. . .they duped the American people. So, when it comes to blaming the enviro-wacko nut-cases, I'm all for it when it comes to nuke power.

What a tragic day for London. My thoughts and prayers go out to them, especially the victims and their families.

I don't know about the significance of 7-7, but my guess is that all dates have some sort of significance, the way they keep their history. I honestly believe that we could take any date and find something significant to them, just the way that they have located their sacred sites all over the world.

NYC has two levels of orange - we are moving to high orange now - probably higher for the subways and trains.
