BLAST AT CITY TUBE STATION - FOUR BOMB EXPLOSIONS AROUND LONDON
Sky News ^ | July 7, 2005

Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189

There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.

There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.

The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.

A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

"I think the UK response has yet to emerge. It may be worth pointing out though that the UK is no stranger to bombings."

Yes, I absolutely agree. They are strong, they are brave, they have resolve, they know how to deal with these situations, and they have obviously done an excellent job responding to this.

BUT Blair's approval has sunk so low because of the war, so it's a logical(?) step for some to sum this incident up with, "It's Bush's fault."

Katie Colic currently on NBC admonishing her viewers not to rush to judgement and accept Al Qaeda's claim of responsibility.

Nothing Al-Qadie Al-Qoriq says surprises me.

CNBC Europe/CNBC World: Polish government building on fire; partial evacuation underway - not known if related.

I'll be surprised if AQ is strong enough to pull of a multi-country attack right now. Prayers for our other allies.

Jim, today is the anniversary of the document that separated Palestine into two separate countries, Israel and Palestine.

Blair was shaken... but in full control.

So reminiscent of Bush's first appearance on 9/11.

As I recall, Blair came and sat in the gallery for Bush's wonderful 9/20 address in the well of the House.

I wonder if Bush will extend his stay and be on hand when Blair addresses the House of Commons. Could make for some interesting body language among the peace-at-any-cost crowd.

Nobody cared about the "abuses" at Gitmo, save for the 20% moonbat leftists. Durbin can forget anyone caring about it in the future either. If anything, we should make things tougher there for the terrorists.

AQ has plunged a dagger into the hearts of the US and British economies - but failed to kill either. Old proverbs cover what happens to assasins who fail on the first try. Any wobbliness on the Brits part is now gone for decades. By the time the Olympics are in London, AQ will be a bad memory.

No doubt....could be just like 9 11. The suicide mind set makes killing yourself a religious act so you may be right.

JULY 7, 1937 - Following the setting up of a commission to investigate the mandate in Palestine, the Peel Report was published in Britain. It recommended that there should be separate Arab and Jewish states.

7/7/2005 was the start of a G8 meeting during which economic aid for Africa (in part to poison it as a potential terrorist haven) was to be discussed.

I would suspect that they are all suicide bombers. In some ways that is good - limited deaths - as opposed to massive explosives carried by planes, etc.

Apparently it's the anniversary of the death of King Edward I, but I sincerely doubt Al Qaeda knows or cares.

The Metropolitan Police advise people to stay where they are and not to call the emergency services except in life-threatening situations.

An emergency hotline number is expected shortly.
