I know I'm getting old, but I'd sure like to bust some a$$!
Well, Sarge got a big "Hey-You-Come-With-Us" detail today, and was doing all sorts of carpentry work while the Kids were off doing stuff as well. And actually, the job gave the chance to schmooze with the higher-ups, so that was a bonus as well.
The heat is building out here, as y'all can guess. Window and wall AC units are buzzing all over the little mini-city we call home. Which reminds of a word to everybody: most every electrical convenience over here is powered by 220 volt, and not good ol' 100 volts. Sarge already lost a set of speakers and a power strip. If anyone is sending stuff to loved ones in theater, one might take that into consideration. Either a power converter, or 220-volt-capable stuff, is in order.
Our PX over here keeps itself well-stocked. Lots of needful thing, to include hygeine and First-aid stuff, too. Good thing, because Sarge had to do some on himself, what with the blisters on the foot and all. Lots of walking is invovled, wherever you go, and as any vet will tell you, foot care is a must.
Scanning the FR threads, you can't know how heart-warming it is to see all the troop suport that's flowing to us from Stateside. Troop support threads, web sites, community groups sending mass mailings and five-foot-tall postcards, it's positively wonderful. The mess hall has one from a group from CA, floor to ceiling signed by a church group - nicely done, people, it really helps.
Oh, and did we tell you - on the night of the Fourth, our artillery guys popped a few illum rounds off. "The Rocket's red glare", and all that. It was inspirational.

I just read an e-mail from a friend of mine who recently moved to Sterling, Scotland. he described the freakshow that the G8 protestors are. Also, he made mention of the bombings in London. Watched the House of Commons declaration of unity and determination to bring justice to those who did this unspeakable evil.

If the perps were trying to make us run scared, they have seriously misjudged. I believe this will strengthen the resolve. May it be so.
