Thanks to the adoring press, Robert Redford recently got to remind the world that he's not a reporter but played one in a film.
Redford, of course, was in the flick "All the President's Men," which co-starred Dustin Hoffman.
While receiving a lifetime achievement award at the Czech Film Festival, the Sundance CEO remarked: "There are deep similarities going on, but where is the press? Where is the press?"
The actor was chiding the news media for not pursuing a sequel to the investigation of Richard Nixon by launching a probe of President George W. Bush.
"There are strong similarities to what is going on, stonewalling, not telling the truth, getting people under wiretaps," Redford repeated to reporters.
Commenting on the Iraq war, Redford claimed that the U.S. public continues "to be told things that are not true and what worries me is that we have these brave young American guys risking their lives every day."
Watergate is in the headlines once again because "Deep Throat" has revealed himself to be Mark Felt, former No. 2 at the FBI.
So who better to ruminate about investigations than the Sundancer?
Redford went on to ponder the lack of investigative journalism these days. "The media have changed, we see the ethics have changed," he horse-whispered.
And he griped about how "the press is more, I am sorry to say, celebrity oriented."
The Left Coast Report points out that if the press weren't "celebrity oriented," Redford's deep thoughts would be confined to his private commode.
Hunh? The press today is less ethical than EVER. I'd love to hear Redford's "educated" views on Dan Blatherer and MemoGate.......and if Redford bemoans the "decline" of investigative journalism, then some bright young journalists should start in on the Clintons' use and abuse of the Justice Dept, the IRS and the FBI....just for starters.
And he really doesn't understand the irony of his remarks.

The fact that he fails to see the irony in his statement only reinforces his point. What kind of media would pay attention to what an idiot like Redford has to say?
Bob ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer, is he? I can think of a couple of similarities between Nixon and a successor named Clinton, including FBI files in the wrong hands. Don't recall him speaking up on that one.
Redford is an expert on NOTHING-- and especially not about aging gracefully and well.

Well the problem was that Nixon was a piker when it comes to the likes of Clinton. Colsen had one FBI file and went to prison for three years (approximately). Clinton's crew had nearly 1000, possibly as high as 3000. No problem there...
Colson was at least a White House Staff member. Clinton's FBI files were accessable by interns.

Exactly. Celebrities opining on foreign affairs, diplomacy, and all other areas of government and international politics only prove their appalling....and actually laughable......IGNORANCE!
About 6 months ago, someone did a study on the academic credentials of the biggest mouths in Follywood, and the entire long list could only boast one college degree - Susan Sarandon, who received a B.A. in "theater arts" from some college.

Funny to see freepers such as yourself who will badmouth a liberal simply bc he/she has a degree in *any* of the liberal arts, yet praise someone like Tom Selleck, Kelsey Grammer, James Woods, or Bruce Willis with similar degrees.
Ah, Nixon.. there was a president who was severely under-rated. Nixon was under-rated and demonized, while the hippies of his generation have been over-rated and overly praised. :o(

On another note, I heard a rumor that when Redford read the script for "The Way We Were" and saw that he would be required to do a love scene with Barbra Streisand he contacted his agent and told him to ask for more money.
