Afghanistan - Two missing US troops 'are dead' - BBC
BBC News ^ | July 4, 2005

Two of the four US special forces soldiers missing in eastern Afghanistan for almost a week have been found dead, US military sources have told the BBC.

One was found alive on Saturday, but the whereabouts and condition of a fourth team member remains unclear.

The governor of Konar province has spoken of reports that an American is being cared for in a remote village.

The US launched a major hunt for the men after a Chinook helicopter sent to find them was shot down last week.

The 16 US soldiers on board the helicopter were killed.

Meanwhile, the US military has said it regrets that civilians were killed in an air strike by US forces in eastern Afghanistan.

Women and children were among 17 killed in the raid on Chechal village, Konar province governor Assadullah Wafa said.

"Meanwhile, the US military has said it regrets that civilians were killed in an air strike by US forces in eastern Afghanistan."

Yep. The BBC just HAD to add that little tid-bit in there, didn't they?

Well, two found alive, two dead, one still missing. Keep praying!

the "civilians" living in those mountain hideouts are the family members of the taliban - tough luck.

still no word on the targets - who exactly was in this mountain hideout? how do they know that "civilians" were killed - this implies we've had some kind of ground based recon on the bombed sites?

Prayers for these men and their families.

Let's continue to take a wait and see on this. Reports aren't always correct. (regarding the possible two dead SEALs).

You're right. It may be true, but I'll wait for confirmation ... and keep praying.

Well, two found alive, two dead, one still missing.

As I read it, we've recovered one alive, two dead (assuming this sad report is true), and there's one more apparently (not yet confirmed) being treated by Afghan villagers somewhere.

Because of our tenuous relationship with Pakistan, I suspect. Furthermore, there has been some bridgebuilding between Pakistan and India; but not enough.
