WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -- US Senator Tom Coburn has introduced a bill that would require parents be notified before contraceptive drugs and prescription devices are distributed to minor children by certain public health clinics.
The Oklahoma Republican and practicing physician says he disagrees with the federal policy that allows children to make reproductive decisions without their parent's knowledge.
He says the policy contributes to a growing problem of sexually transmitted diseases and unintended teen pregnancies and abortions by discouraging parental involvement.
A companion bill was introduced in the House by Representatives by Missouri Republican Todd Akin.
I'd like to see them try. They'd find themselves getting a very quick education as to the limits of their powers.
Making a wrong ruling is one thing. Attempting to make a ruling when you don't even have jurisdiction to do so is a whole different ballgame.
I'd like to see those powers removed from judges.
Judges have gotten out of control.
At least (if that's true), he's not spending his days and nights devising new schemes to drive business and industry away, raise taxes, deny services, and otherwise emulate Gray Davis. Not that he doesn't have enough allies in the Legislature to do that for him.
I have some relatives in Oklahoma and I am sure that they voted for this man. This must be driving NOW and NARAL nuts!
LOL!
BWahahahahahaha!
This is a double edged sword here. A girl from my high school was on birth control until her mom found it. She denied it was hers and quit taking it. Then she got pregnant. Not all kids have the intestinal fortitude to come clean about their sex lives with their parents. Does this really mean we don't want them on birth control? I for one don't think they are ready to be parents if they can't be honest with their parents about what they do with their time.
I'm not saying it, the article is saying that. According to this, it's federal policy to distribute w/o parental notification.
I don't see it that way
I agree that politicians have no desire to get rid of subsidies or cut federal spending. My point is that to stop the federal spending we have to talk to people, convince the voters, that these subsidies are unconstitutional and a poor way of spending our money. It's not the politicians whose minds have to be changed. We get the voters opposed to this and then we change the politicians.
Do any of the lawyers have to stop practicing law? Do they keep up with their license fees/requirements? It is ridiculous that a doctor would have to stop practicing medicine!
Hey, I have a cousin who recently graduated from OU; there is a slim chance that you may know her.
Some of Coburn's comments are too off the wall for him to advance beyond where he is. Saying that SE Oklahoma schools are so full of lesbians that they can only go one at a time is just as damaging to me as a lot of the activity from those on the left. Saying things that have no basis in reality usually doesn't help you get elected.
Why?
Whats her name and what does she do?
you can freepmail me if you would rather do that, lol.
He wouldn't have said it if he didn't have a basis for saying it.
He's one of the most honest and smart men you will ever meet.
Yes its very ridiculous!!!!
I don't want to be expected to pay for for some 16-year-old's sex life. I was neither honest with my parents about my sexual activities when I was in high school nor was I expecting the government to provide me with condoms. I bagged groceries after school and on weekends and used the wages I received to woo women at dinners and movies and purchase condoms. The government played no role, except a couple of times when I parked my car in a deserted public park
Force the public clinics to tell on the kiddies, and the kiddies will go somewhere else for their birth control.
You have FReepmail.
excellent bill to introduce!!!!!!!!!!! PRaying this will pass!!
Thanks!
Who's laughing? I'm not laughing. Har...
Thanks
