Attention all Freepers. My son-in-Law's unit in Iraq, the 141 Washington Artilary, has been alerted and will be monitoring this thread. We need to let them know how much true Americans (Freepers) appreciate what they are doing. Our goal is 1,000 messages posted here. Please help us make it happen.

You young men and women are the reason the US has not been attacked since September 11th, 2001.

We are more proud of you than you can ever imagine.

Keep your gear and yourselves clean and in proper order.
Listen to your LTs and Sergeants.
Come back Home in one piece.

E6 USAFR.

Tomorrow my family and I will gather to watch documentaries on the hard won wars the men and women of this grand country have waged against tyranny, slavery, communism and fascism. All day we will remember our troops, wherever they are across the globe, who guard our freedoms with their courage and blood.

Tomorrow you will be honored, but then in our home we always honor you, our courageous men and women who give of yourselves for your countrymen and this land. God bless you as you serve, and when you return to your people you will know the depth of our gratitude for your sacrifices.

Happy Independence Day and God bless each and every one of you.

Last fall we had a thread where we were asked to post our favorite line from Senator Zell Miller's speech at the Republican National Convention. Here is what I would have picked if the request had been to post our favorite section. I hope it will be okay with Senator Miller if I dedicate these lines of his speech to all of you, with my deepest thanks. You are the greatest!

Never in the history of the world has any soldier sacrificed more for the freedom and liberty of total strangers than the American soldier. And, our soldiers don't just give freedom abroad, they preserve it for us here at home.

For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag.

No one should dare to even think about being the Commander in Chief of this country if he doesn't believe with all his heart that our soldiers are liberators abroad and defenders of freedom at home.

Happy Independence Day to our Troops. God Bless All of you and thank you for keeping us safe and free.

The Soldier

It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the organizer, Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protestor to burn the flag.

- Father Dennis Edward O'Brian, USMC
