Critics Call Radio Hosts' Trip Propaganda Mission
Sunday, July 03, 2005 By Kelley Beaucar Vlahos
WASHINGTON A contingent of conservatives talk radio hosts is headed to Iraq this month on a mission to report "the truth" about the war: American troops are winning, despite headlines to the contrary.
The "Truth Tour" has been pulled together by the conservative Web cast radio group Rightalk.com and Move America Forward, a non-profit conservative group backed by a Republican-linked public relations firm in California.
"The reason why we are doing it is we are sick and tired of seeing and hearing headlines by the mainstream media about our defeat in Iraq," Melanie Morgan, a talk radio host (search) for KSFO Radio in San Francisco and co-chair of Move America Forward, said.
Morgan said the media is "imposing a Vietnam template on this war."
"This is not Vietnam," she said. "War is war, and it's dangerous, and the killing is taking place all of the time. At the same time, where there is danger, there is success and there is a mainstream media that is determined to shut out that success."
She said the group is going to Iraq to support American troops, who see a disconnection with what they experience and what's being reported in the United States. She said the incongruence is leading to "morale problems."
But critics, including independent journalists who have reported from Iraq, say the trip is a propaganda mission for the U.S. military and the Bush administration and cannot be considered "journalism" by any standards.
"This is the most pathetic thing I've heard in a long time. They should be ashamed of themselves," Peter Beinart, editor of left-leaning The New Republic magazine, said.

Maybe we'll see a Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Hugh Hewitt trek to Iraq for a week or two of on location broadcasting. I heard from an early poster last week that this 'tour' didn't work out with Sean's schedule. Considering he has the Freedom Concert on Friday evening July 8th I understand that.
I also agree that Fox news is doing a damn good job. I have it on all the time. But then, I don't have many liberal friends anymore so its no problem. ha.
OHHHHH, yeah, that would be a good group, maybe add Zell Miller and Oliver North...maybe even Glenn Beck.
Beinart is part of the "reasonable Left". In fact, that term usually is applied to the New Republic exclusively. But I don't understand his problem. If it is a propoganda trip by obscure talkshow hosts, who cares? They can spout propoganda more easily without a trip to Iraq. If Iraq really is such a mess, then wouldn't it be a real risk to bring these strong supporters there to see it? I think the Left just needs to take a nap for a while.
Fox could report on the criticism of the trip from the left even before they announced the trip, because you know, I know and Fox knows what the left is going to say even before they say it.
It's getting REAL old.
Yep! Thanks for the ping Vis!
Bada-ping.
Rightalk.com started as Radio FreeRepublic two years ago.
Good news! Will you be going too?
It's not journalism unless we say it's journalism.
Thank you for raising such a courageous hero. Please thank your hero for me.
Ditto to every word you said!!!
I did not know that, Indy. I try to pay attention, but I miss alot. I send a message every day to www.americasupportsyou.mil. Let me send this message through you. These men and women are the very best that we have and I am so grateful to them that I choke up every time I think of what they do. There are no words for my gratitude.
Your thanks mean a lot to our family.
You know, I can't access that site, would you know why? Check my home page, I have a couple pictures of her in Iraq. It's hard to know everything on FR today, not like 3-4 years ago.
I take it back. I do remember your lovely daughter. Good job, Mom. Great job, young lady. And my thanks to her.
This is the weekend .. most of the lefties work on weekends and they really do report more of the left's view of things. I can only watch a couple of programs and then I give up on them. Tony Snow is good on Sat mornings, but the rest of the day is a loser.
And .. just from perusing the statements .. it sounds a lot like sour grapes to me. My first thought was .. the liberals are afraid the public will find out what they've been saying was NOT THE TRUTH. Poor babies .. that's what happens when you are willing to lie.
I've figured it out. I've googled that site and am able to access that site using

Maybe others are experiencing the same trouble, so, I'm just posting this here as what I did for the solution.
"What's the matter? Don't they trust us?"
No. Next question.
The left hasn't faced reality in 40 years.
My thought, exactly! "Depends on what the definition of 'is' is..."
