Dutch Sending Jets to Find Missing Teen

ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Holland will send three F-16 warplanes rigged with search equipment to find Natalee Holloway, Aruban authorities said Saturday, as U.S. lawmakers increased pressure on the Aruban government to do more to find the Alabama teenager nearly five weeks since she disappeared.

The three planes, equipped with infrared and sonar-scanning capacity, were expected to arrive Sunday afternoon, said Aruban government spokesman Ruben Trapenberg.

Trapenberg said the planes were being sent after Aruban Justice Minister Rudy Croes requested more help from Holland, the Caribbean island's former colonizer.

"Both the justice minister and the prime minister feel that Holland can help us reach a resolution with this," said Trapenberg.

This week both Sen. Richard Shelby, a Republican from Alabama, and Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, wrote letters to Aruban Prime Minister Nelson Oduber urging the government to do more and let the FBI play a larger role in the investigation.

"With every passing day, I become increasingly concerned that the current investigation has reached a dead end," Shelby wrote in a letter dated July 1. "It's unfathomable that the Aruban government would not take advantage of the full spectrum of resources, personnel and expertise of the FBI."

Seven FBI agents have had an observatory role on the island since a few days after Holloway disappeared on May 30, but have repeatedly said they don't have jurisdiction to direct the searches or investigation.

Trapenberg said calls for an increased FBI presence don't make sense. "It's fine to have the FBI here, but if you send in more agents are you saying the ones here are not any good?" he said.

The teen's mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, said the U.S. pressure showed that family members aren't alone in their frustration with the pace of the investigation.

"It has become increasingly difficult to simply wait and see what happens," Holloway Twitty, a 44-year-old speech pathologist, said in an interview Saturday with The Associated Press.

The mother said the family was "graciously pleading" with the FBI and Holland to do more to find her daughter.

"It would be comforting for us if they were more active in this investigation," said Holloway Twitty. "We must demand and expect that Natalee be returned to her country."

Holloway, 18, from Mountain Brook, Ala., disappeared on the last of a five-day graduation trip with 124 classmates.

Island-wide searches — which have included Aruban police, the FBI, Dutch Marines, a rescue group from Texas and thousands of volunteers — have produced nothing.

Three young men have been detained in the disappearance: Dutch teenager Joran van der Sloot and his friends, Surinamese brothers Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18.

Trapenberg said Friday that the three young men have not been formally charged but could be as soon as Monday. Trapenberg has not said what charges could be filed against the three. They were scheduled to go before a judge Monday to learn if their detentions would be extended another 60 days. Under Dutch law that governs Aruba, a protectorate of the Netherlands, detainees can be held 116 days before being charged by a judge.

Trapenberg said Friday that the three young men have not been formally charged but could be as soon as Monday.

The three were the last ones seen with Holloway the night she disappeared. They were arrested June 9 and on Monday were expected to go before a judge who would decide whether to extend their detention an additional 60 days while prosecutors prepare their case.

If they're that good, how about sending them to Syria to search for WMDs?

Saddam's WMDs that were smuggled to Syria? I don't think they're there anymore.

Aruba is a lawless island transit point for Columbian drug cartels -

Now the world sees what "justice" outside of the USA is really like -

The message from this should be: Parents, do not send your high-school-senior daughters to ANY such lawless, foreign locations.

The locals in these tourist traps are trolling for victims and suckers.

We were surprised at how naive all of those parents were - and from what I have seen on FNC and CNN - who naive all of those Alabama grads and the parents and the seven adult "chaperones" still are.

I grew up in South Florida and was always aware of what tourist areas attracted and acted accordingly.

Fort Lauderdale was always an oasis for con men, hookers, drug dealers, gamblers, scam artists, pickpockets, counterfeiters, car accident insurance tricksters, crooked bar/club owners, etc.

The US Navy and foreign navy ships docked at Port Everglades and those randy just paid sailors and submariners were a big target of local scammers and also tough guys to annoy in a club at 1am.

But we were forewarned and forearmed and negotiated the area without becoming victims as the snowbird tourists were.

We even survived all of those Yankee tourist girls; many of who decide to stay after a few days there and moved there permanently instead of vacationing there a week or two every year. Nothing as dangerous as a tall slim tanned young blonde on the beach - or at closing time. It was really very hard to take for young locals but we survived them too; but enough war stories.

We had gators, rattlers, coral snakes, water mocs, sharks, cudas, scorpions, panthers, and Porky's (Porky Baines) Hideaway to encounter. But then we never faced the scumbags of chadgate back then.

The ignorance of the adult chaperones and the parents of all the Americans that go to foreign distant or even close places like Aruba is incredible.

Jamaica and the Virgin Islands have some dangerous histories too; because a spot is beautiful and seemingly friendly foreign tourists seem to believe it is a safe paradise out of an old movie.

They in fact sent their youngsters into the jungle without snake-boots and defensive weapons - and still more are doing it.

Finally Americans are realizing that the dangers are real and that the law enforcement and justice systems are also part of the danger and corruption. - The hungry sharks in the shallow waters.

The most insidious part.

The deadly part.

An F-16 flying as slow as it can will be over Aruba in less than 1 minute - that's called a quick glance.

So while 3/5ths of the Dutch airforce is in Aruba, will the unassimilated muslims back home stage a coup and take over?

For the FBI to be forced to sit on their hands through this is enraging, but Aruban LE are between a rock and a hard place. Maybe they can ask the FBI for advice, how to conduct searches, forensic stuff, and interrogations, but it seems plausible that any overt action by the FBI (not searching for N, but being involved in interrogating the suspects, like sitting in the same room, asking questions), might be grounds to get the case kicked out of court...and then they'd go free even if you had a confession and found the body. (One of the tv news shows said the FBI has been allowed to watch interrogations through a window from another room.) Still, at the very least, you'd think Aruba would have allowed FBI divers to search near the lighthouse.

Natalee and the others probably never thought about the extent of anti-Americanism on that island. Aruba may depend on American dollars for a healthy economy, but they're still very Dutch, and anti-Americanism thrives among the Dutch in Europe. Joran and his family are from the Netherlands, and you have to wonder what kind of conversation took place around their dinner table. "Those rotten, stinking Americans....bullies...arrogant..." Joran could have decided rape was just what that American 'slut', Natalee, deserved. But then it got out of hand.

Joran's obnoxious behavior toward Beth Twitty, N's mother, the night they knocked on the VDS door was no accident....and this was before N's disappearance was public. No tv, no newspapers. Greta on Fox, pointed this out, that Joran and the Kalpoes had their first lie ready to go even before the 'news cycle' had had a chance to kick in. Why the cover story? Why the stupid lie? They were covering up what nobody else knew, that N was probably dead. Let's hope the Aruban prosecutor feels this is evidence of guilt and brings this to the attention of that judge on Monday.

A set-up story for "accidental injuries" if a body is ever found -

They had this alibi story "rigged" with Daddy van der Slime early that morning -

Check the FNC coverage from Greta and you will hear this again -

They're probably just carrying the modernized LANTIRN pod...

What? Dutch F-16's are equipped with recon pods built around the CA-270.

And to add to your questions, enquiring minds want to know, who is paying for the Twittys PR person.

Beth should have explained to her daughter from little on, as a young christian lady, you dont go to a bar get drunk and get high on drugs and than take off with 3 guys. That behaviour is not acceptable, than maybe her daughter would have returned back home with the rest of the young ladies on the trip.
At 18 she should have known better.

The Dutch got a bunch of LANTIRN pods a number of years ago.

The Dutch have also been buying from ROI for years now. Why use a targeting pod when you have a dedicated recon pod available? Not that it's likely to do any good anyway, but still...

Because the Modernized LANTIRN has a better IR system and it doubles as a recon pod now anyway.

Yeah, and if you pull the other one, it plays a little tune. Unlike SHARPS, which ROI also supplies cameras for, LANTIRN is not a near real-time recon solution, it's a targeting system. And it's a fine targeting system, but it cannot transmit images back to a ground station in flight, which makes it a very poor substitute for systems that can. Like the Dutch recon pods, for example.

Kids do dangerous and stupid things no matter how good the parents are. Didn't you feel invincible at that age?

Also, can we be sure she was drunk? One report indicated that date rape drugs are prevalent at that particular bar--May or may not be true, but certainly a possibility.

When I think of some of the things I've done (and I wasn't wild either) it's amazing that I'm here today to tell about it.

And even if she were wild and crazy, she surely doesn't deserve to be missing and probably dead.
