I'll bet Rehnquist retires by October too. Of all days to have a lot to do outside the house. Shoot.

Luttig and Roberts are both young, "smart as $h!t" and rock solid conservatives, to quote my hub, either one would be excellent. as would Owens or JRBrown. as a 4th Cir judge, Luttig's "rabbi", the one that would shepherd him through the confirmation process, would be none other than VA Sen.John Warner, who could appeal to the Chaffees, Snowes etc to join the herd. That would be a good thing. Thomas's "rabbi" was Danforth.

Sure, but I'm still in shock over the realization the age proscribes me from being a nominee. Woe ;^)

Had Bork joined the AG and Dep. AG, the next in line would have been a civil servant, and likely would have created what Richardson and Ruckleshouse dubbed a "constitutional crisis." Source: private conversation with Richardson and Ruckleshouse.

If either of those two are still around and you have the opportunity to speak with them, you might want to ask them why they didn't think about this before they submitted their own f#%&ing resignations. What kind of principled stand was that supposed to be? "I'm resigning because I don't want to fire this guy, but I want you to stick around to fire him because otherwise it might be a 'problem.'"

I have to disagree, the reason we got 8 years of slick willie is because social conservatives voted for Perot or stayed home. I hope this will not happen again, but it could. All you have to do is read one thread to note the Buchanan reactionaries coming out in droves. Most Conservatives will not go off the reservation because they are not one issue voters, but there are enough one issue people to screw up the whole thing. They will not only shoot themselves in the foot, they will shoot us in both feet.

I didn't always agree with O'Connor's decisions. Nonetheless, she's a Reagan appointee and I'll second President Bush's remarks about her:

This great lady, born in El Paso, Texas, rose above the obstacles of an earlier time and became one of the most admired Americans of our time. She leaves an outstanding record of service to the United States and our nation is deeply grateful.

Oh, gee......thanks for reminding me of my "other" requirement.

A strict constructionist and YOUNG. (But I still like Olson!)

"It's Janice Rogers Brown time."

No chance. She would have to be on the DCA for at least a little while (not legally, but politically)

But O'Connor is as often on the left as on the right and is often the swing vote.

She was the deciding vote on the Bush/Gore decision on 12/00.

Trust me, the far-left has no love for her. If anything, I hope she has 24/7 security for her and her family.

That's right Soul. Like it or not we are a big tent now. I'd rather have a fiery social conservative on my team than an anti-American, communist, socialist, troop-bashing lib in my party anyday.

Viva Conservatives, Viva Republicans, Viva Free Republic.

Applause here.

Not sure. I think Taylor(Chief Justice) is in his 60's, and Corrigan(former Chief Justice) is in her 50's, Young is about 50, and Markman I have no idea except that he was assistant AG under Reagan.

Kozinski was a Reagan appointee.

Here's the guy who is a lock for confirmation. No way could the Senate 'Rats filibuster a fellow sitting Senator! He's the perfect age as well.
