This will be a very interesting process. Especially given the fact the msm is loosing the monopoly. Call me crazy, but I am actually looking forward to it.

If we are calm, I think we will end up being pleasantly surprised. Also, the President said the next nominee deserves a "dignified confirmation process." For those who missed it, that was a Bush-like shot across the bow. He was politely saying "Don't mess with this." In my observation, when he is "very polite" like that it tends to mean—watch it.

Ditto. I might add, no more Yankee's either. Put Southerner's on the court.

I'm not as familiar with the Southern Judges, but I can think of five Yankees off of the top of my head that even any Southerner would be proud of.

The four Michigan Supreme Court judges in my tagline, and Alex Kozinski.

Yeah... well... I hope your use of "we" doesn't include all of us.

Nobody on this forum includes you OR Pat in that collective "we."

And nobody is surprised that you expect the worst. In every situation.

If he nominated Jesus Christ, you'd find something to complain about.

"1973? Watergate? What are you talking about?"

I hadn't realized you were that ignorant of our Nation's history, especially since you are posting on THIS thread.

When you have the time, try plugging "ROE V. WADE" and "1973" into your search engine and then come back and we can have a intellectual discussion.

We all have one shared goal. Constitutionalist judges. Does it matter if you come at that goal from a social, fiscal, constitutional etc... mindframe? We have the same goal!!

Bashing people necessary to the party for having different priorities is RIDICULOUS as in this instance we're all onboard for the same outcome.

Knock it off. Focus on the the RINO's. Focus on the red state Dems. Stop tearing different factions of the party apart.

CA is too big and too populated to wholly label it liberal. Those who do are so damn ignorant and I won't tolerate them.

A bunch of libs on a board I visit are saying that they "fear for (their) children" now that O'Connor is leaving.

Does anyone have a good (not too mean) response?

Just a question: What kind of leverage could the "watch it" hold? Sometimes I feel like we're going to a war with a bb-gun when dealing with the underhandedness of the Liberals.

The social conservatives threaten and know they can bring down any Republican. But they are not the only people in this tent.

The social conservatives are the reliable conservatives. The country club wing of the Republican Party is the wing that sells out Israel, is squishy on abortion, has no stomach for right to keep and bear arms, raises taxes, wimps out on the War Against Terror, and generally goes along with the Traitor Party....but not quite as fast. In short, they are Democrats in all but party affiliation (look at the voting records of Chaffee, Snow, Collins, Specter, Hagel, Lugar and the other RINO POSs in the Senate for confirmation of that assessment)!

Basically, it was the country clubbers who prompted me to leave the Republican Party. I am a fiscal and social conservative and not ashamed to be. I am not a caveman who is only good to provide a vote for the Rockefellers/Bushes of this world. I am a thinking conservative who believes in small government, individual liberty, and personal responsibility! I have been fooled by the Republican Party before, and will not be fooled again! You sold us a "conservative" candidate in Bush 43, and instead, we got 41 redux! A Texas accent does NOT make someone a blue-collar conservative, and so far, this Bush has shown the same country club tendencies as his father did. If it weren't for the blue-collar conservatives the country clubbers wouldn't get elected to spit! After all, why vote for Democrat-lite when the libs can vote for the real pile of filth?

The Republicans had best learn a few things, and internalize them:
The Dems DON'T like you!
The media DON'T like you (unless you sell your conservative constituency out)!
TRUE conservatism wins EVERY TIME IT IS TRIED!
Conservatives place principal over party....we have other places to go, and we may just build up a TRUE conservative party if you keep crapping on us!

Bush and his crowd have been crapping on the conservatives for a LONG TIME, and I can't speak for others, but I'm sick of it! If he nominates another O'Connor, Souter or Kennedy, I swear as God is my witness that I will work with all my might to see the defeat of that nominee and to see Bush turned out to pasture as soon as is possible!

This country cannot survive any more "moderation"!

All a "moderate" is is a liberal who is too white livered to admit it....or too duplicitous!

Your rudeness is shocking. A president was impeached in 73 and resigned. Roe was in 73. But frankly, I agreed with Roe and still do.

So be a jerk to someone else Dude.

So, where does that leave me? Social Conservative or "broken glass" conservative. Maybe I'm just an almost bled-out almost apathetic conservative who needs just one more tiny paper cut much less a heart scooping sacrifice on the Aztec ziggurat of tolerance and moderation.

Me, too. In the meantime, we can watch the Democrats DEMANDING to be listened to.

Should be fun.

I'll take Luttig for $100, Olson for $200, and Estrada for $1,000,000, Alex!

According to the AP wire story that came across a bit ago, Bush will have to do more looking because he was prepping much more for a Rehnquist retirement.

They probably will need more time to go through the lists they considered in the past for O'Connor's retirement in past years. I would be surprised if they pick a male.
