Bush and the GOP will cave - we will get at best a moderate. Have you not been watching the Senate lately???

You know... that is the track record. I tend to agree with you. I would love to be proven wrong here. In fact I'm praying that I'm wrong.... but I think you're right.

Bush statement at 11:15, no announcement of replacement at that time.

I am with you -- the naysayers are out once again today -- why deal with facts when you can spin like the RATs?

And where are those social conservatives going to go?

Social conservatives always seem to have their bags packed at the ready, threatening to split if they don't get their way.

Far as I am concerned, walk now and avoid the prolonged goodbyes. If social conservatives want to destroy our best hope of turning this country around by demanding that all things go their way, it is lost anyway.

I am mad already and the nom hasn't been made.

Ditto.

I agree with you; you're fears are valid. Bush and the Senate Pubs have had a miserable record with all things conservative...it's hard to believe we have a majority in both houses - we've nothing to show for it.

I hope (probably in vain), that conservatives will support the President's pick, rather than one-issue bashing him to death

If you're suggesting we should be happy with a pro-choice moderate, I disagree.

We will support the President's pick if he chooses the kind of judge he promised when we elected him.

And I think he will.

Bork was the acting Attorney General in the Nixon administration who carried out the infamous "Saturday Night Massacre" in which Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox was fired. The Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General had resigned rather than carry out Nixon's orders to fire the prosecutor.

At the time of Bork's nomination there were many Republican senators who were adamantly opposed to having Bork on the court -- mainly because his role in the Watergate affair indicated a lack of principle, an excess of political ambition, or both.

My criticism is the constant threat of the social conservatives to pack their bags and abandon this president if they don't get their way.

Many freepers are conservative but not social conservatives,,they don't admit it here because they get turned on by fellow freepers.
