A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Give libs enough Rove, and they'll hang themselves
by JohnHuang2
First, some thoughts on Bush's speech. It's true that Zarqawi's followers have no vision, no plan, no power, no ideas, no agenda, no program, no reason, no momentum -- but I'll have more to say about the Democrats in a moment. Over in Bush's quagmire in Iraq, the pace of reconstruction keeps picking up, Iraqi security forces keep getting better, Iraqis keep defying "insurgents," tips from locals keep pouring in, Zarqawi aides keep getting captured, the promised civil war keeps not happening, satellite TV dishes and cellphones keep spreading, Baghdad has bumper-to-bumper traffic, citizens are getting massively into politics. To top it all, the transition government is putting the finishing touches on the new constitution, which guarantees the rights of free speech, free assembly, free press -- even allowing Ten Commandments displays in Iraqi courthouses!
The constitution will be a done deal by August, the deadline, then Iraqis give it an up-or-down vote in October, then come final elections in December to elect a permanent government. The new government, with full public backing, then swiftly proceeds to take out Jihadi terrorists, leaving hard-core Baathists like Nancy Pelosi in their last throes.
So far, the most coherent Democrat "critique" of Bush's Iraq policy goes roughly as follows: Bush invaded Iraq without a plan and Bush had planned to invade Iraq all along, even before seeking a resolution from the Dixie Chicks (see retyped Downing Street Memo!), plus this whole war was cooked up by Jewish neo-cons as part of their Christian Crusade so it's Israel's fault and we need more troops and we need an Exit Strategy 'cuz no country wants foreign troops on its soil so we need to bring in the Germans and get the French to do what the French do best -- train people to defend their cities -- and what on earth does fighting tyranny in the Mideast have to do with 9/11 when we all know the cause was poverty in Tora Bora or maybe it was the work of Mossad or Halliburton or Enron and Bush is a liar and we need to shut Gitmo down and Bush is a liar. Liberals insist that we're losing the war because terrorists in Iraq are still behaving like terrorists. Libbies then quickly note there's no Iraq link to terrorists. And Bush is a liar.
If that compelling argument doesn't work, libbies then trot out their polls. "President Bush is casting about for ways to stem the tide of public opinion on Iraq," notes AP writer, Tom Raum. "He is running into a growing level of skepticism." After checking for 'growing level of skepticism,' I noticed I didn't have any. In fact, even before Bush's speech at Fort Bragg tonight, a new ABC News-Washington Post poll shows this 'sinking' public optimism about Iraq sinking back up to 53% (7-point jump from mid-Dec.), with 52% now saying Bush's "quagmire" has made America safer (5-point jump from early June), 51% saying the war has "contributed to long-term peace and stability in the Mideast," just 13% wanting an immediate pullout and only 24% agreeing with AP writers that Iraqis are worse off today. (With numbers like these, there's no way Bush can lose in '08!) Now, if you're Zarqawi or some "insurgent" in Iraq with Dick Durbin tattooed on your fanny, you've gotta wonder, looking at these numbers, if all your insurging was worth it.
Bush noted Tuesday night that terrorists, aware of the stakes, "know the outcome will leave them emboldened, or defeated." After Bush's address, defeated is how Democrats feel tonight. The problem with liberals is that the only thing they're good at is producing this prolonged, high-pitched noise called whining. The sniveling little bed-wetters then wonder why Americans don't trust the party of sniveling little bed-wetters to protect them from terrorists.
Remember their reaction to Karl Rove's remarks last week? Did you see that? Talk about whining. You'd think Rove had accused liberals of being patriotic. Democrats say they were shocked by a speech in which Rove said liberals reacted to "the savagery of the 9/11 attacks" by wanting "to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding to our attackers." Outrageous. As if there weren't liberals in America who'd gladly chop the 9/11 attackers into confetti for flying planes into buildings without a pilot's license. And against the city's noise pollution ordinance.
Almost to prove Rove wrong, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee and other libs, touring Gitmo over the weekend, called for an independent commission to a) investigate Gitmo and b) investigate why Bush has failed to prepare indictments.
Harry Reid said Rove "should immediately and fully apologize or resign." Rove's attack was vicious and hurtful (Oh, you brute!). Howard Dean said it's outrageous that some loudmouth party hothead would try and besmirch the reputation of the other party. Rove had used "divisive and damaging political rhetoric," said Howard Dean, who has an office of 'Kind and Mellow Political Rhetoric' at MoveOn.org. Sen. Chuck Schumer said "there's a certain line you shouldn't cross, and last night Karl Rove crossed that line!" But let's be fair. It's not like liberals don't have buddies bleeding and dying on the battlefield too, as you can see by this headline: U.S. Strikes Kill 178 Afghan rebel suspects.
What's funny is, Rove gets accused of making blanket statements and over-generalizing, but let libbies catch you looking cross-eyed at a terrorist and instantly you get labeled a 'neo-con'.
Now, let's take a little quiz. Bush's approach to dealing with terrorism consists of not waiting "to be attacked again. We will defend our freedom. We will take the fight to the enemy . . . There is only one course of action against (our enemies): to defeat them abroad before they attack us at home."
The liberal's approach? After the first WTC bombing, Clinton pounded al-Qaeda hideouts with dozens and dozens of . . . indictments and subpoenas, cornering Osama with a series of punishing press conferences after the '96 Khobar Towers bombing. The terror hunter didn't catch binny or destroy al-Qaeda, but he fried the Branch Davidians, keeping America safe. In '98, al-Qaeda blows up two U.S. embassies in Africa, so Clinton invades Serbia. In 2000, the USS Cole gets bombed, Clinton pardons Marc Rich.
Question: Which of these approaches has meant fewer attacks against U.S. targets outside of Iraq? Approach 1) taking the fight to the enemy, or Approach 2) bombing Serbia and serving al-Qaeda with very scary subpoenas? If your answer was 1, congratulations! You're not a liberal.
Which is why Rove's speech was such a masterstroke. It a) baited Democrats into defending Michael Moore and MoveOn.org and b) got Democrats to admit they're liberals. If you don't want to be known as a liberal, whining about Karl Rove saying 'mean things' about liberals isn't very smart. Give libs enough Rove, and they'll hang themselves.
Now, let's talk exit strategy -- and we do need an exit strategy. It's time to lay out a very credible exit strategy, and I have one -- for Pelosi, Reid, Dean, Biden, Kennedy, et al. It's called a 1-way plane ticket to France.
Anyway that's...
My two cents
