In a wide-ranging interview now wrapping up on Chris Matthews' Hardball show on MSNBC, Howard Dean described the murderous insurgents in Iraq as "fighting for their country." So outlandish was his statement that, probably realizing his folly, he quickly added, "don't get me wrong, I favor fighting against terrorists."
Matthews gave Dean incredibly respectful treatment. If Matthews had any criticism of Dean, it came from the left. He called Dean "a voice of reason" and demanded to know why Dean wasn't as critical of the war in Iraq as he was when he was a candidate for the Dem nomination.
Matthews was highly critical of other leading Dems - Kerry, Hillary, et al., who are not as willing as Dean to call the war a mistake or blunder.
Matthews has clearly gone over to the hard left. Niche marketing, or incipient dementia?
Sissy Chrissy Barfy Squeky!
Matthews used to work for Tip O'Neill. He's no journalist, he's a Democratic politico. We used to have journalists in this country. Now we have out-of-work political operatives polluting the airways.
If Dean thinks these "insurgents" are just nice guys fighting for their country, perhaps he could explain why so many of them come from other countries. Or is that just one more inconvenient fact that the Democrats choose to ignore? And while they ignore facts, the Democrats spin fantasies about how people who disagree with them are Nazis, and that we live in a dictatorship. I have no further reason to listen to Democrats, Matthews and Dean included.
What amazes me is that so many people on this forum are watching Hardball. How many threads does this make on tonight's show?
It's not just the "insurgents" from other countries. The home-grown ones are fighting for a Saddam restoration or something like it, are they not?
We shouldn't let this comment of Dean's go by. It is treasonous and we should say so. It is as bad as Durbin's comment, at least.
I know! I guess the dummy didn't get clued into the information that the soldiers were told to specifically not clap cause they didn't want the speech to be like a pep rally. The troops love W, but did what they were instructed to do!
Goering gave Hitler incredibly respectful treatment, too!
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
Did you catch the comment by O'relly? He told Wesley Clark. ''Listen you sound just like John Kerry! Did it not dawn on him that Dean, Clark , Lurch are all the same brain damaged people rolled into one?
Where can I get a transcript of the latest
Dean insanity and a video of it. I will put it on my TV show.
Do you have mo video of Dean duficity, where show me that was outstanding!
FOUND IT.
DEAN: I certainly agree with the last sentence: he wanted to seek the terrorists abroad before we attacked them at home. The rest of it was only partly true. There are terrible foreign terrorists over there. They have been drawn to Iraq where they were not there before
because we put our troops there. So if you could debate the wisdom of that.
The other people that are creating the mayhem in the streets of Baghdad are people who are fighting for their country. They are local people who disagree with the occupation.
Look, I make no excuse for terrorism. People who blow up women and children ought to have the full wrath of the United States down upon them.
Dean "The Scream" is truly the voice of Today's Democratic Party.
Umm...Does the word "insurgents" have any meaning to Dr. Dean? The statement is so bizarre and confused that I am truly beginning to wonder if there is something physically and/or psychologically wrong with Dean.
I have, along with most other people, always dismissed Dean as simply a Democrat Party hack who took the (practically futile) job of trying to rally the Democrat base for money. I just figured he was an overly excitable loose cannon. Entertaining, even, in a perverse, carnival freak-show kind of way. Totally non-threatening.
But I now believe that the man is sick, and if he has any real friends they better get him help. I believe he has a serious health issue. No joke.
Don't have an answer to that one. I'd check out the MSNBC web site, but don't think they regularly maintain Hardball transcripts.
Thanks for finding and posting. Dean's statement was so outrageous that I began to wonder if I had misheard it, but you've confirmed that he did indeed describe the insurgents as "fighting for their country."
Dean is an embarassment.
Please, just shut up.
Correction:
Please, do not shut up.
