HARTFORD, Conn. -- Republican leaders in the state Senate have called for another special session to consider legislation limiting Connecticut's eminent domain laws following its defeat in the General Assembly on Tuesday.
The proposal, offered in response to last week's U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing New London to take homes for a private development project, was killed on a mostly 22-11 party-line vote in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
The House of Representatives, which also is run by Democrats, defeated a similar proposal 82-50.
The plans were offered as amendments to legislation that details the two-year, $31.2 billion budget and other provisions.

Excellent. A stick to beat them with in 2006 elections....
Proof that liberal democrats are socialists bent on total state ownership.
Every State needs to make them get on record whether they are for or against this.
Jesus is definitely the one and only one who'll rescue us. ;o)
That stick ain't big enough here.
The sad thing is that most people probably agree with the Democrats on this issue. They are all for confiscating other people's property as long as it isn't theirs.
exactly what I was thinking. This "emminent domain" issue could be the best thing for our party right now.
We'll gain big in 2006, the true conservatives will be the loudest voices against it, any American with property and a brain will hear us, and the RINOs will (hopefully!) fade into the background (or be pushed more conservative).
Probably alot of that is wishful thinking, but then again, we're the party of hope, not doom and gloom! =P
Socialism is a great evil, and Jesus is Lord.
We both know who will win.
FAscism run amuck in Ct.
No surprise here I suppose. Some morons in the local paper's comment section the other day of course blamed Bush and the far right for this issue. What a laugh.
I did not know the mayor of New London was black until I saw her on TV last night. One state rep. from NL, also black and a Demo of course, was all in favor of eminent domain. I have to wonder why these folks are so opposed to individual rights when it comes to property.
So the Democrats are on board with towns just taking people's homes. Make sure this article gets e-mailed to everyone you know.
Somebody with a DU account needs to post this over there.
Absolutly, hoist them on their own patards.
Just wait 'til their local socialists start seizing their neighbor's property for "_________________(insert social pest here) Rehab Centers" in their neighborhoods.
The Democratic Party -- the domain of big corporations, fat cats, bribes, back-room deals, big lawyers, palm-greasing, special interests to the detriment of the common person -- we know the score now.
Why do the Rats keep taking by eminent domain when the will soon have the Subbase at Groton to pass around to the developers?
