A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Summer is finally here! It started on June 21st at 2:46 A.M. EDT, and I couldn't be happier that my favorite season is here at last!
So, today at the Finest we are celebrating all things "Summer"....like baseball and sandcastles, watermelon and lemonade, beach balls and suntan lotion.
What says "summer" to you?
I'll start............a few of my favorite "summer" memories from childhood; blueberry popsicles, catching lightening bugs, running barefooted through the grass, and ice cold watermelon juice dripping off my elbows. Okay, your turn! :-)
Solstice comes from the Latin (sol, sun; sistit, stands). For several days before and after each solstice, the sun appears to stand still in the skythat is, its noontime elevation does not seem to change.
"Midsummer" is celebrated all around the world with summer art and music festivals, but the annual celebration at Stonehenge has to be one of the most impressive. Last week, just under 21,000 people trekked to the Salisbury plain to watch the sunrise between the ancient stones of the megalithic ruin.
Summertime music for your listening pleasure...
Some Summer Links....
Fish are jumpin' And the cotton is high. Oh yo' daddy's rich An' yo' ma is good lookin' So hush, little baby, Don't you cry. - George & Ira Gershwin, Heyward DuBose from "Porgy and Bess"
"This is June, the month of grass and leaves . . . already the aspens are trembling again, and a new summer is offered me." - Henry David Thoreau, Journal, June 6, 1857
Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all. - Stanley Horowitz
That beautiful season the Summer! Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood. - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Summer is a promissory note signed in June, its long days spent and gone before you know it, and due to be repaid next January. - Hal Borland
For him in vain the envious seasons roll Who bears eternal summer in his soul. - Oliver Wendell Holmes, The Old Player
The serene philosophy of the pink rose is steadying. Its fragrant, delicate petals open fully and are ready to fall, without regret or disillusion, after only a day in the sun. It is so every summer. One can almost hear their pink, fragrant murmur as they settle down upon the grass: 'Summer, summer, it will always be summer.' - Rachel Peden
Summer afternoonsummer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language. - Henry James, "A Backward Glance"
If a June night could talk, it would probably boast it invented romance. - Bern Williams

What an adorable face. How is Chachi behaving today? Has he let you take a nap? With a face as cute as his how can anyone be bored with looking at him.
Great page again . . . as usual.

Hi there friends.. got in a bit ago (gone ALLLLLL day) and ran out again & in for a bit. will take Oliver to park for an hour or so walk but it will be SOUPY as we had A LOT OF RAIN yesterday evening & it appears again this afternoon a bit more as I was out & further south.
Lori & Amy.. went to Stan Hywet again with several friends including FReeper Molly Pitcher . I got up at 6 which wasn't much sleep as I was playing a fun game called HTML hide & seek last night until 3:30. and I lost!!!! really too brain dead to tackle it now. Do need to shovel out kitchen & do some clean ups here. Will be at vBS both Thurs / Fri during mornings to do photography for the mission projects & a few other "assignments" from director, Cheryl.
Looking forward to the visit with you both to Stan Hywet.. will be tying down more plans next week or so. But perhaps we can do the tour on Fri & Dutchess can wander over here (if she is back from her trip) and join us. I have free admission for 4 guests... It is a delightful place.. and the gardens are quite special. I am drawn to history of the golden age era. world wide Time of many wonders, joys, tragedies & time of my parents birth
Lori.. the thread is delightful. My speakers are still not set up but I am guessing the first song is Porgy/Bess's Summertime.. which I love..Good dancing music!!
My summertime memories are good ones basically. I recall playing spud in street in front of house with neighbor children until way after dark. Our parents would often be sitting on front porches chatting. I remember biking to the little mom/pop grocery store for soft drinks (which we never had in home); I remember biking to swimming lessons at city pool ... about 5 miles each way. Lessons were at 9 AM & I recall the pool being coolish. Memories of picking blackberries with dad so mom could make jelly/jam. Memories of our family piling in car & going to drive in movies. Mom would pop a big bag of popcorn & they had beer (cant recall what we drank), my brother & I fell asleep early in evening & frankly don't recall any movies. I remember helping my mom with yard chores.. putting in veggie garden, weeding, trimming cultivating flower beds. I remember going to swimming parties with my parents & their friends. I was very proud because my dad would come in water & play with the kids. He also did fancy dives off the board. I remember it was summer when we got our first TV. I didn't know what it was. Summer was also lots of hikes, biking & climbing trees. It was a time of bee bites & skinned knees (if you bike , you fall... still happens unfortunately when you are klutzy)..
I might check back later.. Need to get my pouch out. He is shivering under my chair. Guess there is still thunderboomers in his ear shot & some folks are getting a head start on their fourth July festivities.
