Graham-Clinton Lovefest Irks Evangelical Big
NewsMax.com ^ | June 27, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

National Clergy Council president Rev. Rob Schenck walked out on Rev. Billy Graham during the second night of his Queens, New York crusade on Saturday, after Graham yielded the stage to Bill Clinton and suggested his wife Hillary should be president.

"I was stunned and appalled," Rev. Schenck told the Christian Wire Service, saying that he left Flushing Meadows Park while Graham was still complimenting the Clintons.

"This was a deliberate, cunning, purely political move by the Clintons to divide the Evangelical vote and assure Hillary of a victory in '08," said Schenck, a minister with the Evangelical Church Alliance and a missionary to elected officials.

Rev. Schenck said he has considered Rev. Graham his role model for over 25 years, explaining that he had traveled from Washington, DC, to New York City this weekend to witness what may be the legendary preacher's last crusade.

But after he saw the Clintons exploit the aging Graham, he couldn't bear to stay and hear him preach, he told CWS.

After the two top Democrats managed to secure onstage seating, the ex-president praised Graham for his civil rights work during the 1950's, adding "I've loved him ever since. God bless you, friend."

Rev. Graham returned the compliment, calling Mr. and Mrs. Clinton "wonderful friends" and "a great couple." He then quipped that the former president should become an evangelist and allow "his wife to run the country."

The Reverend Graham could have simply thanked them for being there. He did not have to fawn over them.

Sorry, this is more of the same. Graham defended slick willie during Monica gate.....saying that bill was just soo handsome that the women threw themselves at him.

Graham has shown himself as a political puppet. A rapist, lying, cheating, murderer like Clinton should not be given the stage to further his power. True we are all sinners but that doesnt mean we should NOT discern the pigs from the sheep.

I always held Mr. Graham in high regards, but after the stunt he pulled with the SHE-DEVIL, I'll never see him in that light again. My hubby was right, NEVER ever put your eyes on men, but on God alone, because men will let you down and God won't!! I was extremely disappointed in Billy Graham endorsing the SHE-DEVIL for prez! I know, he didn't exactly say it, but we know what the SHE-DEVIL will do with that little clip!

Seems everyone here wants to blame an aged man who has gone mushy in the head. The real scandal is those who used him as a political prop. Shame on them for taking advantage of this old man for their own ends.

"He has done much good throughout the years - I hope he hasn't undone it now."

The Lord has at times used the vilest of men to accomplish his purpose. Graham is incapable of un-doing the Lord's plan.

You'd probably have to ask Mr. Graham if he was embracing the Clintons' sins. Lest any think I'm defending him for putting the Clintons on the platform, I certainly don't like for a moment that he gave them any place of honor, considering their distinctly unrepentant attitude toward their well-known, documented sins. On the other hand, are they not sinners just like us in need of hearing the gospel message?

It's like President Bush saying that the Islamic religion is a peaceful religion. It's like having all these inter denominational events after 9/11. Trying too hard to seem tolerant. Graham should have called it like it is. Clinton is an adulterer among other things. How does it help Clinton to be cuddled and loved by Graham, if he isn't told that what he did was wrong in the eyes of God. And I won't even get into Hillary.

I always admired him because of his sincerity. I just don't understand.......... If there was anyone I wouldn't want to be seen with it's the scumbag and his wife. Especially since this is Graham's last crusade. I'd think he would get to say no way at least once in his career.

Too bad we didn't get this on tape. It's really hard to believe without it.

First your minister, now Billy Graham. Added on top of the existing political/judicial situation, it's shaping up to be a crappy summer.

In what way did that activity present "the Gospel Message?"

Oh well, I'm sure I'll get a million opportunities to hear Graham's exact words about Hillary. In the form of campaign commercials in 2008.

"He then quipped that the former president should become an evangelist and allow "his wife to run the country."

Quip in jest or not, it amounts to TWO heresies in one sentence. Suggesting that Bill Clinton becoming an evangelist is bad enough, but encouraging support for Hillary as president is complete insanity. Graham made a serious mistake in this statement, and his ministry will suffer as a result. He should have just said nothing, but now he has alienated millions of former supporters. What is odd is that many of us are already aware that Graham has taken a universalist "One World Church" belief in recent years, and had already lost many of us.

The new minister at the church my husband has attended for years said something in praise of Clinton, and detrimental of some mythical group of Christians who "made him feel hated". We were out the door after that (well, after hubby gave a few parting words) and aren't going back.

I didn't shed my education, common sense, or memory when I got baptized four years ago. Any minister who believes Clinton's manipulations and lies is not smart enough to be my minister. That is all.

I understand Billy Graham suffers from a type of illness that affects the brain. It is possible the poor man didn't realize what he was saying. It is too bad that he is continuing to try to evangelize as it is apparent he is not truly able to think rationally.
