NEW YORK (AP) -- John Fiedler, a stage actor who won fame as the voice of Piglet in Walt Disney's Winnie-the-Pooh films, died Saturday, The New York Times reported in Monday editions. He was 80. Fiedler served in the Navy during World War II before beginning a stage career in New York. He performed in supporting roles alongside Sidney Poitier on Broadway, John Wayne in Hollywood and Bob Newhart on television. With Newhart, on "The Bob Newhart Show," he was Mr. Peterson, the meek patient who was often a target for Jack Riley's sarcastic Mr. Carlin. Fiedler also appeared in the films "12 Angry Men," "The Odd Couple," "True Grit," "The Fortune" and "Sharky's Machine," and was a cast member on the TV show "Buffalo Bill." But he was best known for the squeaky voice of the ever-worrying Piglet that he landed when someone noticed his naturally high-pitched voice. "Walt Disney heard it on a program and said, 'That's Piglet,' " his brother James Fiedler told The Times. In addition to his brother, Fiedler is survived by a sister, Mary Dean, The Times reported. The newspaper did not report the cause or location of his death.

He was in a Star Trek episode too. I believe played some kind of madman.
His voice was terrific as Piglet.

Wasn't that also Mr. Peterson (not sure on the character name) from the Bob Newhart show?

Yup. He was Jack the Ripper in the 23rd Century. (Apparently, Jack was an alien being that moved around, but hadn't actually been killed off.)

He was also Mr. Peterson on "The Bob Newhart Show" and was on episodes of "The Odd Couple".

It hasn't been a good couple of months for voice-over artists. Piglet, Tigger, Tony the Tiger ... (there are probably one or two others that I'm forgetting that passed away recently.)

Yes, it was the episode where the spirit of Jack-the-Ripper had taken over his body, and Scotty was accused of murder......

Yes, the Star Trek episode is unforgettable because of him. I thought he died many years ago. He was one of the character actors who I actually knew his name.

Thank you. Yes, he was the one I was thinking of although I totally forget that he was another Pooh character (even if he was invented by Uncle Walt).

Paul Winchell the voice of Tigger died recently as well. I remember him with Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smiff. My childhood memories are slowing fading into oblivion.

I suddenly got this really, really, eerie image of a Pooh-themed "List of Adrian Messinger" (or maybe "And then there was None"?)

Sorry, I've been reading too many conspiracy boards lately. The Illuminati have gotten to me.

Pooh and friends were not Disney characters originally. They were licensed from the UK owners.....
