As has been discussed on Free Republic earlier, Downing Street Memo Originals Destroyed -UGH!, British "reporter" Michael Smith has told Asociated Press that he copied the original on plain paper and then destroyed the originals.
But click here and you see a Reuters Wire Photo Showing a "Seal" on the "copy" offered to the press.
The caption reads, "A copy of the so-called 'Downing Street Memo', produced in July 2002 for Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair on the legality of the invasion of Iraq. Photo by Stephen Hird/Reuters".
Did he really destroy them, type them on plain paper? Don't look like plain paper to me Lucy.....Lucy Rameriz!
Looks like Michael Smith has adopted Dan Rather's mantra, "FORGE ON!"
Anyone having any luck with those letters on the AP picture of the seal?
Moles have good cover, ya know...
Ohhhh! Secret Seal!!!
I thought it said "Secret Squirrel!!
Wel, well, well. How interesting. No matter where I look, the only pictures of the supposed Downing Street memos are this Reuters "eyeglasses" shot, which shows virtually nothing.
Perhaps the media doesn't want the pajamahadeen looking too carefully at the actual document, giving the Rathergate fraud.
Who is that??????
We really have to stop meeting like this, Doc.............FRegards
Good job pointing out the seal. Like Freeper 'Motherbear' asked, "Why the seal if he wasn't trying to pass it off as a copy of the real thing?"
When I first heard that this reporter scrounged up an "old-fashioned typewriter" to "copy" the memos, I figured he was a forger. It's 2005 - - if he was openly making copies, why wouldn't he just do it on his computer? He only came forward with his admission when he realized he was stone-cold caught. In other words, his "admission" to the AP was preemptive.
The only thing left to be seen is how much (if any) integrity his newspaper has.
use the secret decoder ring in 56
Count on it. lol
Indeed. For all of the noise the Leftists are making over this, we've yet to see the actual document.
If they have nothing to hide, they should provide it.
The man FIRST said that he copied the originals then gave the originals back to attorneys.
Then he typed from the copies and then destroyed the copies.
After reading some FReepers post of the stern penalties possible in Great Britain I suggest that he may have changed his story in an attempt to head off further inquiry.
\ Mine told me a won a week at Disney World. Now I believe that more than the Associated Press, well the DC Bureau anyway.
