An new, extremely violent video game release from Eidos Interactive, creators of the blockbuster "Lara Croft" game series, is catching the ire of Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
25 to Life is being called 'far worse than Grand Theft Auto' by a number of critics, including Michael Medved on his nationally syndicated radio show today.
The New York Democrat says the objective of the game called "25 to life" is to shoot police officers, and use civilians as human shields. The game's expletive-laden soundtrack is drawing fire also.He says the game is so gruesome that it lowers common decency.
Schumer is asking stores not to stock the game and for PlayStation manufacturer Sony and X-Box maker Microsoft to cancel their licensing agreements with the British company that makes it.
Despite the attacks on the game, teens on internet message boards say they are looking forward to the game.
After two major delays so far, 25 to Life is slated to be released for PS2, Xbox and PCs in September.
maybe Schumer should spend sometime going after ultraviolent mossies

Double-barrelled Mega-PING! to both lists! If you want on, FReepmail me!
Too bad chucky's too spineless to go after those violent islamofascists. I think his boy friend has been squeezing his cajones too hard.
Not this again... and of course, the article writers are about as ignorant as the anti-game people, if that first sentence is any indication.
There already is one. It's called JFK Reloaded.
If you're talking about the KRON article I linked to, I'll agree. If you're talking about THIS article, I am the "ignorant" writer...
Yeah what's up with that? Rock and a hard place...they'd have to condemn the murder of police officers!
Sounds like a good simulation for LEOs for the eventuality that they face a situation where LEOs are targeted to be killed during a response and where civilian hostages are taken as shields.
Then most of my problems are with the Kron4 article. Though I will say that the series is called Tomb Raider, not Lara Croft (who is the series' protagonist), and it's hardly blockbuster--the last three games in the series have flopped, and the movies didn't do much to change the series' popularity.
That's funny, as someone who plays more than his fair share of games, I hadn't even heard of this game before this story. Of course, that's EXACTLY what the publisher wants: more publicity.
Of course, the article also doesn't mention that you can also join the cop team, and kill bad guys, either. Does Schumer also object to the insanely popular game Counter-Strike, where you can join a team of terrorists whose objectives are to set a bomb or kill all the counter-terrorists?
Ya'know; companies just can't BUY advertizing like this. What better promotion can a game producer get, than the condemnation from a Congressman? The more he whines, the more copies will fly off the shelf.
None of the games that the media and the occasonal pol likes to bash are for children. Doom wasn't, Grand Theft Auto isn't, 25 To Life isn't.
The problem is that there are plenty of gamers nowadays who aren't children anymore, because they've grown up. It's good to have more mature games that are made precisely for them, and if there wasn't a market for them, the games wouldn't be made.
As long as they're not being sold to children, I don't give a rip.
I'm inclined to disagree with banning this game (it is a game after all) - especially since Schumer wants to.
Most violence is perpetrated by males (muslims, hoods, etc) who have never had access to this or other so called violent games after all.
I am not convinced - Schumer needs to condemn tricky Turbin's remarks and stop obsessing with the video games.
