Having read Senator Drubin’s (D-IL) comments comparing the troops guarding the detainees in the Guantanamo Bay detention facility to Nazi’s, Soviet’s and Pol Pot’s murderous thugs, I didn’t think that I could be any more exasperated with the US Senate. Unfortunately, I was mistaken … badly mistaken.
I’m reading an article in the Kansas City Star (“McCain weighs in on Guantanamo debate” – 6/19/2005) about the response of Senator John McCain (D-AZ) to Senator Durbin’s remarks. From a moral perspective, I HAVE to take issue with the Senator’s remarks. They are wrong on so many levels that it’s absolutely amazing.
My first reaction was, “Are you NUTS?” but that doesn’t seem to go far enough. My second reaction was, “Are you ALL NUTS?” but even that didn’t seem to quite cover it. My third reaction was, “You people are drawing US taxpayers paychecks but you’d rather take the enemy’s side. You all ought to resign. Democrat Senators ought to resign for their obvious hatred of the US military and Republican Senators ought to resign for the RESOUNDING, THUNDROUS silence on this issue. “
Let’s take a few of the choicest lines from his nonsensical response.
“Bush administration must establish a system to try and perhaps free suspected terrorists from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba - even if they turn around and attack the United States.” This is the all-star lineup. Like I said, my first reaction was, “Are you NUTS?” The “good” Senator actually wants to release these monsters so they can come back and have another shot at us? We’ve gone to all the trouble to deplete Al Queda’s ranks just to have our own government, fatten them up, give them medical checkups to ensure they’re as strong and as fit as possible, then release them to repopulate Al Queda’s ranks all over again, but stronger than ever.
Tell me something Senator, would you rather have them shooting at our troops, or would you rather they volunteered as suicide pilots and give the Pentagon and White House another shot? 3000 dead American’s and another 2000 combat deaths along with tens of thousands of injuries aren’t enough for you, huh? You didn’t see enough American taxpaying citizens jumping out of windows, or enough American real estate being destroyed, did you?

Have they done America some great service that I’m not aware of that they “deserve” to be let go? And not only let go but to be able to turn around and attack the US again! You’re mad!
I’ll tell you what I want done with them. I want my tax money to stop giving them medical care. I want my tax money to stop buying them Korans. I want my tax money to stop feeding them Fruit Loops and Rice Pilaf. I want them squeezed for every drop of information that they have as harshly as possible, then I want their scrawny butts dumped in a hole somewhere.
This touchy-feely “spoil them and they’ll be our friends” crap may impress you, but it doesn’t impress me a whit! A dead enemy is a safe enemy, political correctness notwithstanding. And if the US government doesn’t have the guts for that, then I want every soldier and marine out there to start shooting to kill and damn the intel.
"Some of these guys are terrible, terrible killers and the worst kind of scum of humanity,'' And you want to let them go? By what POSSIBLE torturous logic can you say that the worst kind of scum of humanity deserve to be released and rejoin their old comrades to attack us again?
I’m simply amazed that all of this Gitmo brouhaha comes out of a simple lie by Amnesty International. The press picked it up as if it’s the gospel truth, then the Democrats picked that up as if IT was the gospel truth. Who says there’s no bias in the US press???
In case you haven’t noticed Senator these people and many others hate us out of sheer jealousy, however we treat the “worst kind of scum of humanity”. Our soldiers are the ones who are tortured and killed by virtually every enemy we’ve ever fought. NOTHING you or I can do will stop that. They LIKE torturing American soldiers, sailors and airmen, as well you should know. They have no hesitation or compunctions about torturing our people and releasing these people isn’t going to change that a bit. Every enemy we’ve ever fought has tortured American prisoners.
How much better can it get than Rice Pilaf and free Korans??? I suppose that boiled Lobster or Pheasant under Glass might earn even more goodwill from these monstrous murderers so would you recommend that to the people running the show?
I’ll tell you something Senators. I think it’s disgusting that these “people” are treated better than our own people guarding them!! That’s immoral. I don’t WANT these people to have air-conditioning. Let them GUESS which direction Mecca is. Let ‘em sleep on the floor! Why they are being pampered like this I have no clue.
You people on the Hill seem to forget that the support for putting these people up in style comes from TAX MONEY! Tax money that a hundred million people work damned hard for every week. You all seem to think that it’s free money. It just magically appears. And if it ever runs out, hell, we can just tap that infinite bank account again! No Problem! Well it’s NOT free money, it has a source and you people on the Hill are supposed to be safeguarding it and making sure that it’s spent wisely.
Just for the record: I do NOT want Gitmo closed. The only alternative to Gitmo is to imprison them on the US mainland, and with the TERRIBLE job the US government does in ensuring that people here illegally are tracked and sent back to their own countries, I don’t trust that government to ensure that these people are sent back to their home countries. I don’t want this kind of poison let loose in this country.
Nor do I want them to receive the due process rights that American Citizens enjoy. They are NOT American citizens and don’t DESERVE the same rights that our ancestors fought and died for so that they could be enshrined in the US Constitution.
Let’s face a simple fact here. The Democrats (McCain among them) don’t CARE about these monsters. Like their constituencies, they have a USE for them, but they don’t CARE about them, two different things. What they DO care about with this dustup about Gitmo is that if they can get it closed down, they can pin it on President Bush and that’s ALL that they care about. They can then claim that this is a military failure and blame the President for it. That’s ALL they want. What do they care about 500 monstrous murderers from some of the worst mudholes on the planet? They don’t.

I remember a show that the History Channel did on the Roman Empire. It had a short clip by Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) saying that the Roman Senate, like our Senate was not populated by the strongest of the strong, or the swiftest of the swift, but the wisest of the wise. Well, you could have fooled me! I see NOTHING wise about our Senators. You people are VERY out of touch with the people of this country.
“Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice defended the policy from Jerusalem on CNN: "The president has an obligation to protect the American people…” I wish our Senators felt the same way!
PS: Yes, I know that Senator McCain is theoretically a Republican, but not by my lights!

I think if we let these turds go then we should announce on CNN that we are pulling all security away from the Capitol, the Congress and the Senate buildings only and let them have at em.

Republicans, with some exceptions like Tancredo and Allen, are just wimps. They just want to stay in Washington and will do NOTHING to risk that, even if it means condoning treason and traitors like those listed above.

Yep it is hard to believe that someone who was a POW and who is a US Senator would be so uninformed about the reason POWs are not put on trial.
I would gladly take a few from Gitmo on a weekly basis and they WON'T turn around and attack the US.

I think many people would help out.
I believe John was held prisoner for 5 years. Ask John if he had 3 (special order) squares a day, exercise, clean clothing etc. And ask him when he was tried by the Judicial system in that country or did they just keep him until the end of the war. McCain has to do some soul searching and get over his bitter loss to Bush. He might just come around one of these days.
He is NOT uninformed, he is being political, which is worse, IMO.
I have $20 in my pocket right now.
